This one hit different.

A family in Sergeant Bluff lost their home to a lightning strike last week. They’re planning to be displaced for a year. When we asked what they needed, the first thing she said was that the hardest part of all of this has been learning how to accept help.

Thanks to @amglaze, the Sergeant Bluff Fire Department, Joey, and the entire crew behind theRide — we were able to send $40,000 their way. To cover whatever they need over the next 12 months. Deductibles, furniture, beds, toys for the kids. Whatever helps them keep making memories while they rebuild.

Some days the miles are the hard part.
On this day, the miles were the easy part.

For years I talked about making an impact. This year, I decided to do something about it.

I rode my bike 1,886 miles from Mexico to Canada in 12 days. A few months earlier, I didn’t even consider myself a cyclist.

Along the way, we met people in small towns across America, heard their stories, and gave away life-changing gifts to individuals, families, and organizations doing good work.

More than 70 people and organizations were helped. Over $766,000 raised — and we’re not done yet.

People kept telling me I didn’t have to do this.

My answer never changed:

“I know. But I get to.”
