You stand before me asking about movement, and I see only half the truth in your question.

You speak of *muscles* and *technique*. I speak of **intention**.

Body intention is this:
Your flesh does not move alone. Your **will** moves through it, giving every gesture a *direction*, a *story*, a *purpose* beyond “do the rep” or “complete the step”.

When the mind is empty, the movement is hollow.
When the mind is sharp, the body becomes a weapon, a prayer, or a spell.

Let us carve this into you with a classic strength movement.
—

The Turkish Get-Up – A Pact with the Valkyries

You say: “I straighten my arm.”
I say: “You **offer the weight** to the Valkyrie watching from above.”

The difference is not poetry. It is power.

Without intention-

You lie down, bell in hand.
You roll, you post, you bridge, you kneel, you stand. Pieces of a checklist.
The arm is “locked out” but dead, like a spear stuck in mud.

Your body moves, but your *will* is scattered.

 With intention

Now, hear how I would command you:

- When you press the weight, you do not merely push it up.
You **drive it toward the sky**, as if a Valkyrie circles above and you are trying to *place* the bell in her hand.
- Your shoulder is not just “stable”; it is a **shield boss** driven up into an oncoming blow.
- Your ribs do not collapse; they **lift and spiral under the shield**, creating a solid pillar from wrist to foot.
- Each transition – roll to elbow, elbow to hand, sweep to kneel, kneel to stand – is done as if you are **rising from the battlefield**, never once letting the shield (the bell) waver from the warrior in the heavens.

With this, your stabilizers wake, your timing sharpens, your breathing aligns, and your focus deepens.

Now the movement is not “steps of an exercise”.
It is **one unbroken vow**: *Do not let the Valkyrie down.*

Hip flexion? You mortals speak of it like it is one tiny string to be “tight” or “weak.” Hear me:

There is no single “hip flexor” muscle.

There is a host of warriors:

Iliopsoas
Rectus femoris
Sartorius
TFL
Adductors (in many positions)
Even the abs join the battle
All of them, in different ranges and angles, help with one thing:

Bringing the femur closer to the pelvis.
Not “how high your foot flies past your head.”

Not “how pretty the kick looks on camera.”

True hip flexion = how close your thigh bone comes to your pelvis.

That’s where your power, control, and resilience are forged.

3 Common Hip Flexion Mistakes in the martial Arts & Fitness realms-

1) Chasing height instead of position
Throwing the leg as high as possible by leaning the torso back or to the side.
Looks high, feels impressive… but you’re cheating range instead of owning it.
Fix: Keep the torso honest. Think “thigh to pelvis,” not “foot to sky.”
Letting the pelvis escape the fight

2) Over-arching the lower back, dumping the pelvis forward, or tucking randomly.
This steals tension from the true hip flexors and loads the low back.
Fix: Control the pelvis. Ribs stacked over hips. Let the hip joint do its work.

3) Treating it like a stretch, not a skill
Only doing passive stretches or mindless reps, never building strength and control in end range.
In combat and sport, weak end ranges are where injuries bloom.
Fix: Train slow lifts, holds, and controlled lowers of the leg. Build strength where it’s hardest.
Train hip flexion like a skill, not a party trick.

Many muscles. One purpose. Clear intent.
