@badlandscc is done and dusted ✔️
After nearly a year of preparation, it feels good to tick the box on a ride and life experience that will surely not forget.
A lot of time was spent riding uphill, eating excessive amounts of bocadillas, conversing with new friendly faces, and seeing Spain in its full form - from the seat of a bike.
Next year I’ll be back; faster. 💨

I’ll be one of the first people to tell you that I don’t always understand why bad things happen to good people.
Or why you have to watch the ones you love endure trials and adversity.
But, as I once heard @nateclarke_ say; “Where grace is denied, grace is supplied”.
Meaning — when things don’t work out the way that we had hoped, God is still at work, writing a new story. Better than any outcome that we expected, or any story that we could come up with on our own.

Expectation is funny that way. It can be exactly what we need — hope in the waiting. BUT, it can also be what distracts us from the things that really matter.
The woman at the well was probably expecting to go get water, be alone, and avoid conflict - but instead she got relationship with Jesus.
David was probably expecting to just tend sheep and play music - but instead he became a king and known as the man after God’s own heart.
And I really doubt that Jonah EVER imagined himself in the stomach of a whale… But, that’s what God had in store for him, and He used it to deliver an entire city from destruction.

This past weekend, Kat and I showed up to Kodiak 100 expectant.
We were expecting a podium result to end her race season. On paper everything was dialed — The training was solid, the nutrition plan was solid, the pace projection was solid. We were ready.
But 40 miles in, our expectations fell apart.

Admittedly, I was frustrated and confused. I didn’t understand why the Lord would let this happen.
Why after the saga of struggle that we had faced in 2025, He wouldn’t show up for us in the race that we had put the most emphasis on this year.

Quite frankly, it sucks to give so much and fall short. Watching what you had dreamed of and hoped for fade away.
Knowing that feeling first hand makes it even harder to watch the person you love experience it.
And, as a christian, it can leave a lot of room for confusion that might otherwise get chalked up to “stuff happens”.

I don’t remember seeing any jets when filming the first clip, but the Swiss Air Force must’ve been passing over🇨🇭

Dug through a hard drive the other night and realized I had been sitting on a lot of unused clips. So gonna be posting some of those until winter rolls back around again and I’m back on board.❤️‍🔥 taken in Laax, Switzerland by @gofasttturnleft

Cocodona 250 •• from a Crew Chief perspective 🫡

Where do I even begin?

Any way you slice it, 250 miles is a long way.
There’s a lot of unknowns that come with this territory, and I suppose that’s largely a part of the attraction of it. As someone who enjoys my own ultra-adventures, I’d like to think that I’ve got a pretty good grip on what these runners are signing up for. But when it comes to watching someone you love grind it out - It’s enlightening, to say the least.

@kat.elizabeth_ has always had an affinity towards pushing her limits. At least for as long as I’ve known her. And coming into our second bout with Cocodona, things were no different. She stepped into the ring with a big goal - one that would shatter her previous year. A lot of you know that 2025 Cocodona came with big speed bumps, so even just avoiding being stuck at Fort Tuthill for 8 hours with sleep dep psychosis would buy us a lot of time.

Things started well this year with better sleep the night before the start, which was a big plus. Fast forward to ~6pm on 5/4/2026 - Kat was over 12 hours into this year’s edition and hit her first rough patch of the race. Her stomach wasn’t happy and it was letting her know. (Insert a significant caloric deficit) She continued her way down to Whiskey Row, only the second spot we’d get to see her in the first 77 miles. Once she got to us she had been unable to eat for hours - time to troubleshoot. @harriss_chriss did a wonderful job of getting things dialed back in. Kat took her first nap of the race, as we had decided on a different sleep strategy this year, that really helped reset the stomach. Extra time at the aids were required to troubleshoot - but that was a trade off we had to make.

From that point she left with @becs_slc and they started to pick up the pace again. Making quick work of the distance to Fain Ranch, and absolutely DESTROYING the climb and descent up and over Mingus. Cutting a lot of the projected times down and gaining back time lost in night 1.

February was a lot of snowboarding with friends.
Time around the table with family (and those I’d consider family).
A good bit of traveling.
