POSTS STORIES REELS

With so many new faces here lately, it felt like the perfect time to reintroduce myself.

I’m 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐚, 𝐏𝐓 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲. I’m a woman-owned small business, a dual-degree Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist, and someone who genuinely believes that movement is one of the most powerful tools we have.

My journey has taken me from Boston University’s accelerated ATC/DPT program, to treating runners and strength athletes across the Greater Boston Area, to volunteering at the Boston Marathon, to working as a travel PT during COVID. Eventually, California stole my heart, and became the home for the practice I’d always dreamed of building.

A big part of why I do what I do comes from my own story. Growing up as a Track & Field athlete with chronic injuries and low back pain, I was often told to “just rest”… but rest never fixed the root cause. It wasn’t until I worked with a PT who looked at the whole picture, combining body, mind, movement, and lifestyle that things finally changed.

𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲:
For athletes and active adults dealing with ongoing pain, frustration, or being told to stop doing what they love — there is a better way.
A way that strengthens instead of sidelines.
A way that builds confidence instead of fear.
A way that seeks real solutions before jumping to unnecessary surgeries, injections, or long periods of rest.
A way that focuses on treating the person, not just the injury.

That’s the mission behind Golden State Performance PT. And to everyone who’s new here — welcome. I’m incredibly grateful to keep growing this community and to help you return to the life and movement that make you feel like yourself again. 💛

✨ Introducing the Peak Performance Membership ✨
You don’t have to be injured to work with your PT…in fact, that’s the best time to start!

This membership is designed for people who want to stay proactive about their body. Whether you’re training hard and want to prevent injury, or managing ongoing tightness or chronic issues that never seem to fully go away.

Each month, you’ll get a one-on-one, 60-minute session focused entirely on you:
🟡 A quick reassessment to see what’s changed
🟡 Hands-on bodywork (manual therapy, deep tissue, cupping, scraping, joint mobilization, KT taping as needed)
🟡 Corrective exercises and updates to your program to keep you progressing

Between sessions, you’ll have open communication and accountability — think of it like having your own friendly neighborhood PT you can text anytime with questions about your body, your training, or your recovery plan.

It’s all about staying ahead of pain, improving performance, and feeling your best.
Three-month commitment, then month-to-month.

Monday Strength Challenge 🔥

Grip one end of the barbell overhand, where the plates would go, and lift it straight up, keeping it parallel to the ground the whole way.

@michael.mckeen.jr came to represent BJJ 💪 Watch to the end for some strong female representation!

Kari had a four compartment fasciotomy for exertional compartment syndrome, and once she could walk pain free her insurance based PT coverage ended. But walking isn't running, and it definitely isn't soccer. That's the gap we fill here in Ventura, with heavy calf work, plyometrics and force plate data guiding every step back to the field. We don't stop at pain free. We stop when she's playing again.

PS: Since we filmed this, Kari's officially back to running. Soccer field, you're next. by @goldenstateperformancept

I promise I don’t intentionally attempt to try and hurt my volunteers! The PT/ex-track jumper takes the ✅ again 🙌 by @goldenstateperformancept

Monday Mobility Challenge… I don’t think we got this one 😂 @clarisamperez remains unharmed but I can’t say the same for @d.renteria.ref.rn 🥲 by @goldenstateperformancept

Shaina came to us with back pain and didn’t stop the work even once that was handled. She stuck with her plan, kept showing up, and now she’s stronger than she’s ever been. Getting out of pain is the start, but building a body that keeps you there is the real win. So proud of you!!

It’s been a few years since my last CrossFit competition, and I might not have shown it on my face, but I was nervous (the 140 bpm heart rate right before my heat gave it away). The last few years have been a whirlwind of growing Golden State Performance PT, exciting life events like getting married, and some not so exciting ones like injury setbacks. So I’m really glad @jewelyssaamarie asked me to do this with her (thanks, partner!).

And once the clock started, the nerves turned into something else. The music, the crowd, a whole gym cheering for every athlete through the very last rep... that’s the part of competing I didn’t realize I missed so much. My Rx days are probably behind me as I choose a more balanced lifestyle, but my love for this community only grows.

If you’re coming back from an injury, a busy season of life, or just a long break, your comeback doesn’t have to look like your old normal to count. Scale what you need to, show up anyway, and let your people cheer you on. That’s what I want for every athlete I work with.
