Scene: A dimly lit workshop, dramatic spotlight filtering through a cloud of range dust and a lingering sense of betrayal.

People talk about "plug and play" like it’s a romantic comedy. “Oh look, I bought a driver off the rack and we fell in love.”

Cute. But some of us have a 104mph swing speed and a transition so fast and violent it makes tectonic plates nervous. We don’t do "plug and play." We do high-stakes matchmaking.

When the Sub 70 3D-printed driver showed up in the 9.5° head, I knew what I was looking at: a low-spin masterpiece meant for serious business. But the plot thickened. With my old Sub 70 859, I could crank it down to 7° to match my aggressive ~6°ish AoA. The 3D-printed head? A different beast entirely.

Years of OEM fittings and studio sessions mean I actually know my numbers, and I learned the hard way that I couldn’t just slap my usual ProForce V2 shaft in here and call it a day. Launch angle was rebelling. The ball was diving out of the sky like it owed taxes.

Enter the laboratory.

To tame my quick transition, I needed a stout butt section for stability, enough overall weight to manufacture that precious lag, but an active enough tip to actually get this low-spin missile airborne. The solution? A built-up Matrix Ozik Red Tie 70g setup.

And let me tell you... it is an absolute daisy-finding hammer.

The range Trackman spat out numbers so aggressively hopped-up it looked like it was trying to sell me timeshares—flashing absurd distance and launch stats that I treat with the exact same trust issues as a stage magician. Look, we all know range monitors love to flatter us. But even with a healthy dose of skepticism, the flight looks genuinely lethal.

The real final exam happens on the turf with my usual Titleist AVX ball. If that ball behaves out in the elements, heaven help whoever is playing ahead of us.
