HEY! This Saturday, Jan 25th is the official opening party for @whisker_wonderland_cat_lounge ! Go give them a follow to see the event details. Me and @outafterdark worked on this place for them and honestly these photos barely capture all the walls that were painted/how the space will look on opening night. Thank you very much to @anna_montano_designs for having us 🐱❤️🕺🏻

This mural is a love letter to the magic that is the Hill District.
Every element tells a story of the people, history, music, and intergenerational love that make this community so special.

The lightning bolts featured throughout the mural honor WHOD, the historic radio station that once stood at the intersection of Herron and Centre Avenues in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.

The mural brings children and elders together, representing the generations that continue to shape, nurture, and carry the spirit of the Hill District forward.

The elderly couple featured on the wall is inspired directly by a couple from the neighborhood who would come down and watch us as we painted. Their presence became part of our experience of creating this work, and we wanted to honor that connection by including them in the mural.

The musicians are inspired by the music, energy, and cultural legacy of Lisa Horn and Charles Benson, whose influence helped shape the spirit of this piece.

This mural is ultimately about connection to place, to history, to music, and most importantly, to one another.

The voice over features Noami Chambers discussing the meaning of the mural, and Kian Dubay as the documentarian and videographer. by @goodboygems

‼️ Our 2026 residency is coming up ‼️

📆 September 17-28 @tomasives @ishrock and @gloeone will be landing in Pittsburgh to share their muraling practices with the city.

🌎 This year’s residency coincides with our 10th anniversary and the United States of America’s 250th anniversary. We’re inviting the residents and participants in community projects to consider how South America, Latin America, and the Caribbean are part of a larger “America” that often gets erased in shorthand.

🎨 Come meet the artists at events @assemblepgh @thewarholmuseum @downtownpitt and an art show at Slanted and Enchanted on Friday September 18

We hope to see you there and can’t wait for the artists to join us.

HCUAP would like to thank the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for major funding, the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Dean’s office. HCUAP received funding from Pennsylvania Creative Industries, powered by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts. This project is supported in part by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council through its Creative Sector Flex Fund grant program. Thanks to Duolingo for sponsorship, and the Bernadette Callery Archives Lecture Series at the University of Pittsburgh. Housing provided by Pedantic Arts Residency; paint sponsorship by Aerosol Legends/NBQ Pro Spray Paint and Sherwin Williams Paint and BLICK Art Materials for art supplies donation. Thanks to Legacy Realty for space permissions. The Strawberry Way Paint Jam is made possible by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @goodboygems
