Five years ago, Shannon Smith came to Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana after experiencing two years of homelessness and hardship. He was willing to start somewhere, taking a position as a donation attendant.

Today, he serves as our Logistics/Aftermarket Manager after rising through the ranks through hard work, determination, and perseverance.

Shannon’s story is a powerful example of what can happen when you refuse to give up. It’s also a reminder that success doesn’t always look the way you imagined it would. Sometimes opportunity starts with simply walking through the right doors and accepting help.

At Goodwill, when you walk into our doors, you are walking into opportunity. Opportunity to rebuild. Opportunity to grow. Opportunity to change your life and your family’s future for the better.

And when people do make it, many —like Shannon— turn around and help someone else along the way. That is the real power of Goodwill. 💙

Thank you to our new partner, @goodwillsela! Together, they helped us assemble over 3,700 Southern Purple Grits for the @kreweofiris to be caught during Mardi Gras 2027! 💜💚💛

We are honored to team up with their Workforce Development program that helps people with vocational disadvantages develop work skills and earn accessible income. 🤝

We loved working with the krewe and can’t wait to continue this partnership throughout the fall! 🙌 by @goodwillsela

The #goodwillsela Community Career Fair was amazing. We were able to connect jobseekers in St. Tammany, St. Bernard, & Plaquemines Parishes with 20 different employers. They were able to meet employers face-to-face and participate in on-the-spot interviews. Sometimes getting your resume in the right hands is the first step on the journey of career advancement. Make sure you look out for information on our next community career fair in January. In the meantime, visit one of opportunity centers to get help writing your resume and up-skilling in a variety of other industries.
