Join Genspace and our partners at Columbia Engineering & Gotham Foundry for a two-day hands-on workshop in alginate bioyarn experimentation and characterization: Made to Matter: Biofabrication in Fashion. This free to attend workshop is open to residents of NYS interested in the intersection of fashion and biomaterial fabrication, with no background in science or fashion necessary to apply.

This annual symposium convenes thought leaders to discuss the four central pillars of Gotham Foundry: regenerative material innovation and translation, workforce training, industry engagement, and democratizing access to the materials innovation ecosystem.

Established in 2025 and headquartered in West Harlem, Gotham Foundry is a unique partnership between NYC-EDC, community organizations, and academic institutions — including Genspace, CUNY-ASRC, and FIT — turbocharging sustainable materials innovation for the fashion, construction, and health industries in the city.

Congratulations to the inaugural cohort of the Gotham Foundry NYC Advanced Materials Pitch Day Competition!

This year’s award is the EDC Impact Award: Materials of the Future, and is proudly powered by the New York City Economic Development Corporation to inspire and support the future innovators of New York City.

The teams of early-stage scientific innovators represent a range of universities — CUNY, Columbia, Parsons, FIT, USC, and more— with their technologies spanning the health, fashion, construction, and food materials sectors.

This program is designed to help them master the art of the technical pitch, culminating in a Pitch Day on Earth Day, April 22, at Gotham Foundry Partner Advanced Science Research Center, GC/CUNY.

The sustainable materials revolution is here!

To kick off Climate Week, we celebrated the launch of @gothamfoundry , a first-of-its-kind regenerative materials innovation hub. At the event, attendees viewed the Regenerative Vision exhibit of bio-based artwork, new materials, and clothing created by start-ups and material innovators across the city, and celebrated with collaborators and leaders of this initiative: @Columbia, @columbiagsapp, @asrc_gc, @fitnyc, @genspacenyc, @NYCEDC, and community partners.

Gotham Foundry will be a destination for material innovation, accelerating deep tech research and commercialization across the fashion, construction, and health industries.
