NEW PODCAST ALERT

I just dropped a new episode of the GOT RIFF? podcast, and for this one I got to the bottom of how much Crowbar has blown up recently. As it turns out, there may be more to it than just memes.

If you want to listen, so far it's only on YouTube and Spotify, but I am working on getting it on more platforms.

I'd appreciate if you gave the episode a listen, and subbed to the YouTube, which is also @gotriffmedia .

Here's all the new additions to the Riff Tapes this week!

This is definitely one of my favorite playlists I've made so far, and it really captures what GOT RIFF? is all about, which is promoting great heavy music across the whole spectrum. We've got hair metal, hardcore, nu-metal, some power metal, WW1 themed blackened death metal, and much more in this round of new adds.

Thanks for checking out the playlist, and I'll be back soon with more content!

Here's this week's additions to the playlist!

Lots of awesome new music dropped this week, such as the epix return of Power Trip, that vicious new EP from Deafheaven, and killer new singles from Trivium, Orbit Culture, and Down.

Thanks for stopping by, and I'll be back with more tunes next week!

Here's the first mixtape of spooky season!

I, like a lot of others, was very shocked and bummed to hear about Cronos's passing. I never got super into Venom, but I always understood that they were pioneers in the genre and laid the groundwork for basically every extreme metal band that came afterward. Other than that, I did listen to some new releases, like the new albums from Imminence and Amon Amarth but my listening has mostly been going back to old favorites during my commutes.

Hopefully everyone has been staying warm and prepping for Halloween, and I will be back next week with more mixtapes!

Here's the playlist for this week!

I'm a bit behind on new releases, but I could not miss new music from Bullet For My Valentine, and that hilarious emo EP Wendy's put out. Also, @necrophiliacyachtclub stopped by the page and recommended themselves to me, and now I return the favor to you guys. If you like bands like Acid Bath, you'll like these guys.

That's all folks, see you next week!

Here's this week's playlist!

I went to a couple of awesome shows over the weekend, so those bands are represented here. Of course, when my favorite band drops a new song, I have to feature it. The new Anthrax album was great too, and the Falling In Reverse track was a nice surprise with the guests on it.

Last night I returned to Stage AE for round 2, another fun yet wild night of metal with Mastodon.

#mastodon #metal #concerts #pittsburgh #rock

I started out towards the front, but as the pit got more spread out I decided to head back, but not without grabbing some sick shots like this one first.

They played an absolutely incredible setlist. The last time I saw them was two years ago, when they played Leviathan in full, so this time around I go to hear more songs from their other albums, including the latest one.

John Baizley from Baroness came out to sing with Mastodon a little over halfway through the set, and he did a fantastic job singing the late Brent Hinds' vocal parts.

Hopefully Brann is able to get a new drum head for the rest of the tour.

Deafheaven was a huge surprise. I never really gave them much of a listen before the show, despite knowing that they were a very critically acclaimed band that a lot of people loved, but I got to understand why last night.

I had no idea that black metal mixed with shoegaze could have this much energy, especially from the audience.

Alcest went on first, which was another name I knew of but had not quite got around to hearing before.

Their music is very mellow, which is a little outside of my usual taste, but they performed very well, and I won't mind putting them on if I'm not in the mood for something heavy. taken in Stage AE by @gotriffmedia

Last night, I got to check another band off of my bucket list, Black Label Society.

#blacklabelsociety #zakkwylde #concerts #metal #pittsburgh

I was absolutely blown away by how good they sounded. Obviously I knew Zakk Wylde was a great performer, but sometimes outdoor stages can be hit or miss with sound quality.

The setlist was great too. Some of their greatest hits, some newer songs, it all made for a great night.

I thought the behind-the-head guitar battle was really fun to watch.

Zakk did a wonderful tribute to Ozzy Osbourne towards the end of the set.

Before BLS, Zakk came out early with Zakk Sabbath to jam some of Black Sabbath's best songs.

Once again, my expectations for Zakk Sabbath were blown out of the water, they sounded incredible.

I'm glad they played my favorite Sabbath song, N.I.B.

Dark Chapel kicked the night off, and they were a lot of fun too.

Dark Chapel is Dario Lorina of BLS's new band, and they're a very bluesy hard rock band. I recommend giving them a listen. taken in Stage AE by @gotriffmedia

How does everyone feel about the new Slipknot track, Arsenal?

Personally, it's definitely on the more unconventional side of the band's songwriting, but I think the song is catchy and takes some interesting twists and turns.

Upon watching the video I saw someone point out that the video was filmed in the same church that PRESIDENT used for their video for "dark heaven." Pretty neat, right?

Which song do you prefer, Arsenal or dark heaven?

Here's the first playlist of September!

Decided to do a slight refresh of how these posts look. If everyone likes it, I'll probably keep it, but if not I'll switch back to the old format.

I made a new Riff Tapes playlist for the rest of the year, and stylized the covers of the past two playlists a bit more. If you wanna follow the playlists, check out my story highlights, the links will always be there.

I also have a MASSIVE playlist of music videos called GOT RIFF? TV that I'll be posting more about in the future, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.

Lots of awesome music came out last week, so I had to show off my favorites here. Have a great week!

Here's this week's mixtape, and the final mixtape of August!

Last week was absolutely insane for new music releases. Mastodon, The Warning, Beartooth, In This Moment, and Colorblind all dropped albums, and that was just the stuff on MY radar. There were a ton of killer singles too that dropped, some of which are featured here, including the long awaited Fear Factory single.

These additions to the summer Riff Tapes playlist are the last ones. For next week's up until the end of the year, I'll be putting them in a new playlist which I'll post on my stories.
