It has been five years since Lettie joined my mother, father and brother in heaven. I celebrate her life every day.

We shared a special bond from the time we were little girls and I feel incredibly lucky that we were able to live together for 38 years. I speak of her often because that is how I celebrate her life and keep her memory close.

Lettie was beautiful and loving, and she continues to live in the memories of so many. Her indelible smile still brightens my days. She continues to ground me, just as she did when we were together.

Five years may have passed, but the love, memories, and bond we shared have never left me. I will keep speaking her name, sharing her stories, and celebrating her life. by @governormartinez

It has been years since I’ve been able to simply sit down and read a book.

Somewhere along the way, my reading became case files, legislation, reports, and briefing books. I missed getting lost in a great story.

Then I picked up Visions: The Mark by Kathleen Gallaway.

As a fellow New Mexican, I especially loved that it’s written by a New Mexico author and set right here in our beautiful state. It made the story feel even more real.

From the first few chapters, I was hooked. The writing is so vivid and detailed that it felt less like I was reading and more like I was watching the story unfold. It’s one of those rare books you keep telling yourself you’ll put down after “just one more chapter”… and then suddenly it’s midnight.

If you’re looking for a book that pulls you in and doesn’t let go, I highly recommend Visions: The Mark. I found it on Amazon.

Kathleen… I’m officially waiting for Book 2!

Happy 250th Birthday America!

Today we celebrate far more than our nation’s birthday. We celebrate the enduring promise of freedom, opportunity, and the belief that in America, anything is possible.

I have always been grateful for the opportunity to serve this incredible country and our great state.

My hope is that every young person, regardless of where they come from or what challenges they face, knows that their dreams are worth pursuing. I can’t wait to see what the next generation accomplishes as they continue writing America’s story.

As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, may we never forget the brave men and women who fought to secure the freedoms we enjoy today. And may God watch over and protect those who continue to wear our nation’s uniform.

Happy Fourth of July, and may God continue to bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸

What a wonderful evening celebrating America and the everyday New Mexico heroes who make our communities stronger at the KKOB 250 Flags Event.

It was especially meaningful to have 8-year-old Violet join me at the podium to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. She represented the next generation…the very generation we all share a responsibility to inspire, protect, and leave an even stronger America for.

As we approach our nation’s 250th birthday, I was reminded that the American story is not written by famous names alone. It is written every single day by teachers, first responders, members of our military, veterans, nurses, parents, volunteers, business owners, farmers, ranchers, and neighbors who quietly serve others with strength, sacrifice, and compassion.

America’s greatness has always come from ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their families, their communities, and their country. This event was a beautiful reminder that the spirit of America is alive and well in New Mexico and when we stand together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.

I was proud to join the conversation at the ASU+GSV Summit on the future of assessment and accountability in education.

Accountability shouldn’t be controversial, it’s a part of everyday life. We’re held accountable in our jobs, our finances, and our relationships and families. Education should be no different.

As I shared on the panel, you can’t improve what you don’t measure. Assessments are about being honest about where students are, identifying gaps, and making sure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

If we’re investing public dollars in education, we have a responsibility to students, teachers, families and tax payers to ensure real outcomes and real progress. At the end of the day, this is about our kids. We are preparing the next generation of our workforce, and they deserve every opportunity to succeed with strong support, honest data, and a system that works for them.

I was honored to join Ashley Allison and students at Miami University Janus Forum to discuss the evolving landscape of immigration policy.

With over 50 years of experience on the border, as a prosecutor, District Attorney, and Governor, I’ve seen firsthand where policy succeeds and where Congress has fallen short. For decades, Washington has failed to deliver durable, bipartisan solutions on an issue that impacts every community.

Despite coming from different sides of the aisle, Ashley and I found common ground on key principles. That’s how real policy should be shaped, through dialogue, experience, and a willingness to solve problems, not score political points.

I’m especially proud of the students at Miami University who are stepping into leadership roles and asking hard questions, and engaging thoughtfully.
