Another Wednesday, another drop-in!

We held in-class auditions for our students to decide who would represent us at the VTA Improvathon next week! We are excited for this troupes first public performance. Enjoy some clips from our auditions (blind freeze) and some from our post-audition slacker. (@virginiatheatreassociation conference is still open for registration on their website btw!)

Come play and learn with us tonight 6-8pm! (and every Wednesday this month) drop in fee is only $10, and helps support the coaches, with the primary goal of using the funds to cover application and travel costs for future improv festivals. 👀❄️🎤 Register here:

That’s a wrap on another full week (let’s be real, a GSA week doesn’t really wrap up until Saturday) of building community and artistic growth! Yearbook pictures are being taken (which means you never know what is going to arrive on Granby street), technical theatre students were busy building and loading in sets and hanging speakers, actors were hard at work in rehearsals, dancers were bringing back what they learned from their recent trip to Baltimore and our jazz musicians were finding their groove. Now we rest before doing it all again next week! #artseducationmatters #studentartistsatwork by @govschool2

Our Instrumental Music students were also busy last weekend playing the CommUnity Play-In concert with the @vasymphony. After a rehearsal last week, our students gathered with other musicians from around the region for an amazing concert celebrating how music brings people together. We are so grateful for our partnership with the VSO that provides these opportunities for side-by-side mentoring and teaching for our student musicians. #artseducationmatters by @govschool2

GSA Students were busy this past weekend! Visual Arts students took their artwork on the road to attend National Portfolio Day at VCU. Students had the opportunity to meet with college admission representatives and get valuable feedback on their portfolios as they prepare their applications. Thanks to Liana and all the faculty for facilitating the trip so our young artists can continue to pursue their art studies after graduation! #artseducationmatters by @govschool2

Running a high school looks a little different when the school you run is an arts school with a technical theatre track. Dr. Shelly got to fulfill her Tinkerbell dreams and take flight yesterday thanks to Josh Knibb and his rigging class. It also just happened to include some hands on practical physics lessons, as the students also discussed mechanical advantage. #artseducationmatters #technicaltheatretraining by @govschool2

The weather may have shuttered the Sand Sculpting Tent, but our Visual Artists came out in full force for the Neptune Festival Youth Boardwalk Art Show (moved safely indoors to the Convention Center). Congrats to Emirie Lawrence for an Honorable Mention (9th-10th), Berrin Balci for 3rd place (9th-10th), and Ada Colton for 1st place (9th-10th)! We are so proud of all our students who showed their work - great job! by @govschool2
