POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I don’t post often on this insta. @peggymarkel is most active. But today I thought to post “photos that tell a story”.
So many experiences, important people in my life who are still here and some have passed. I’m writing about it now. You will see photos of my beloved Cibreo.. my “fratello” Alfonso alive and well, Luciano Casini from Elba, a soul friend, mentor and cook who is fishing in the further galaxies with Anthony Bourdain whom I saw here a week before he passed. There’s my peach pie.. a summer staple and saffron gin, another summer favorite, there’s my fave captain Antonio and I charting our sail, there are plates of food that say “I am delicious, eat me”. This is one extraordinarily deep and interesting life that is going way too fast.. time to slow down and appreciate some of the images. Happy full moon! 🌕 by @gowithpeggy

Bread baked in clay ovens.
Golden olive oil, pressed just steps from the tree.
Fruit picked warm from the sun.
These aren’t just meals.
They’re moments—rooted in land, shaped by hand, passed on through generations.
In every place we go, we’re welcomed into traditions that hold something essential: care, craft, connection.
If that speaks to you, stay close.

On Earth Day, we don’t just celebrate the planet—we return to it.
At Peggy Markel’s Culinary Adventures, every journey is rooted in the land.

It’s tasting pomegranates picked from desert trees in Rajasthan, still warm from the sun.
It’s sipping golden olive oil straight from the grove where it was pressed.
It’s riding a mule up to the Kasbah in Morocco, hooves echoing through the mountains.
It’s elemental. It’s slow. It’s deeply tied to place.

Walk with the black pigs under the oaks in Jabugo, Spain.
Pick fresh apricots on Ventotene.
Watch the sun rise from the dunes in Sidi Kaouki as camels cross the shore.
Sit at a long table under lemon trees, where the food comes from just outside the kitchen door.

If there were ever a time to slip away, to truly escape—this might be it.

There’s something about fall travel: golden light, fewer crowds, lingering dinners and long walks. We still have a few openings on trips where shared tables and open doors shape the journey—through kitchens, across coastlines, and into moments that stay with you long after you’ve unpacked. The kind of access you only get when you travel with Peggy.

Somewhere between Procida and Palmarola, the world softens.
The breeze shifts.
And you begin to hear your own rhythm again.
This isn’t just sailing. It’s a return to yourself.
Join us in June as we drift from island to island, guided by rhythm, not by schedule.
Two places remain aboard — perhaps one is meant for you.

If you could sail anywhere for supper, where would you go?

Peggy sails for anchovy pasta on Ischia, where the fishermen still mend their nets by hand. For a table set with soft light, sea air, and salt-kissed conversation. For Ventotene lentils, apricots warm from the tree, octopus slow-simmered in wine and wild herbs. For the kind of meals where you linger long after the plates are cleared, just to savor the moment.

This is not a trip for tourists. The ones who know that the best meal of your life is rarely on a menu—and often begins with a sail.

The damp forest floor is a mosaic of moss and fallen leaves, dappled with light filtering through the pines. A flicker of gold catches your eye. You crouch, brush aside the earth, and there it is—a perfect chanterelle, delicate, trumpet-shaped, waiting. The basket fills slowly, a ritual of patience and discovery. Later, in the kitchen, butter melts, mushrooms sizzle, the scent rising warm and wild. A splash of cream, a whisper of rosemary, fresh pasta folded in. A meal shaped by the land.

The water is cold enough to steal your breath, but you step in anyway. First, your toes, then your knees, then the inevitable plunge. For a moment—nothing. Then everything. The rush, the exhilaration, the clarity. You float, weightless, watching a sea eagle carve circles overhead. By the time you climb out, skin tingling, the scent of woodsmoke drifts from the house. Someone is slicing bread, coffee steaming in a heavy mug. You wrap yourself in a thick towel. Breakfast will be hot. And earned.

Sea birds wheel overhead as blue lobsters are brought up from the deep—big ones, and mothers with deep orange roe, carefully returned to the water. But not before we marvel at their simmering midnight-blue shells. Only two are taken, just enough. Mussels are tossed into a pot over the fire with garlic, onion, and thyme, their sea-soaked juices mingling with a creamy saffron broth. They plump, tender and briny, swimming in our bowls, sopped up with garlic-rubbed toast.

The sunset turns Castle Tioram and the coastline a golden blaze, but only for a minute or two, prompting another glass of Whispering Angel. Fresh salmon tacked to a plank has been roasted sideways to the flame. Oysters shucked, wait to be chosen on a bed of seaweed from the shore. We laugh, slurp, and groove to tunes, totally awake in our dream, no worries for a minute or two. Or for seven days.
