CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS-
Yesterday’s emotional rollercoaster took me on a ride! From the truck to the hospital and finally to the 8th floor, endurance was put to the test. Yet, witnessing Gp’s calm demeanor on that floor was what showed me it still feels like home for him. The atmosphere was thick with compassion and care. Every memory of our journey resonates deeply, parts of it I still don’t like thinking about but I'm focused on staying composed for him. He was a champ throughout the day. I’m blessed to have had my sis and niece to help me help Gp. Making it to our 5year milestone is a blessing and nothing we take for granted. Ever. This by far was one of the most magical days for GP. We had just moved him out of a ride line as he was getting nervous and started panicking. We took the emergency exit out and decided to see what characters would be arriving near by.
The way Woody ran up to him was so so cute. They made him feel so special. They talked to him- hugged him, kissed him and even helped him to and from his wheelchair. The line up to see them was crazy long and people had been standing under the 39 degree sun for at least an hour. I was getting anxious as I felt bad we got bumped to the front of the line. At the same time I was also so emotional on how special this moment was. As Woody and Jessie walked him back to his wheelchair everyone in line and nearby started cheering and clapping for him. It’s something we will hold in our hearts forever. 💙💛 October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. 💛💙

A month to celebrate people with Down syndrome, but also a month to remind the world that awareness is about so much more than a diagnosis.

It’s about seeing the person first.
It’s about inclusion, acceptance, opportunity and belonging.
It’s about recognizing abilities instead of focusing on limitations.
And it’s about understanding that a diagnosis does not define a person’s future.

For us, Down syndrome is simply one part of who Gianpaolo is. It doesn’t define his personality, his dreams, his sense of humour, his determination, or the incredible joy he brings to the people around him.

GP has taught us that sometimes the things we once feared are the very things that change our hearts and our perspective in the most beautiful ways.

This month, we celebrate GP and every person with Down syndrome who continues to show the world what is possible when they are given the same opportunities, support and belief as everyone else.

💙💛 Let’s choose inclusion over assumptions, understanding over judgment, and possibility over limitations.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We are almost at the end.

And this year, it feels especially personal.

Last week we had another appointment at SickKids. Even after all these years, walking through those doors can take me right back — to the waiting, the bloodwork, the results and the uncertainty.

We are now officially moving into long-term follow-up care with a new team. It’s a milestone we are incredibly grateful to reach. GP is growing, laughing, living and doing all the things we once wondered if he would get the chance to do.

But childhood cancer doesn’t simply end when treatment does.

The memories remain. The anxiety surrounding appointments and tests can remain. There is a kind of PTSD that comes with childhood cancer that is difficult to explain unless you’ve lived it.

And then there are the lifelong effects — the things we will continue to monitor and navigate because cancer may be behind us, but its impact can last a lifetime.

This month is about more than remembering the children who fought cancer. It’s about remembering the survivors, too. The families who carry the experience long after treatment ends. The children who grow up with a history that will always be part of their story.

Today, we turn another page.

A new team.
A new chapter.
A lifetime of follow-up.

And above everything else, an overwhelming gratitude that GP is here to keep writing his story. 💛

Cancer changed our family forever.
