A lamp that reveals what is normally unseen.

Inspired by the 1957 Windscale fire and the complexities of memorialising technological failure, this lamp explores the relationship between light, memory and the traces of events that resist visual representation.

In daylight, the object remains quiet, almost monolithic. When illuminated, fragmented drawings, archival imagery and traces of testimony emerge through translucent layers, transforming light into a means of revealing concealed histories.

The design draws upon the idea of the architectural ruin as an archive — a physical vessel for fragmented memories, collective trauma and the passage of time.

Rather than presenting memory as something fixed or complete, the lamp invites a process of discovery. Its layered surfaces reflect the fragmented nature of traumatic memory, where histories are obscured, reconstructed and gradually made legible.

An object that does not simply illuminate space, but illuminates what remains. taken in Derbados by @grace.baker.architecture
