One of the most important things about bridal makeup artistry is the client’s happiness and satisfaction. Being in client service for over 15 years has taught me how to read facial expressions and body language. And I have used that skill countless of times to gauge how my client’s are feeling about the outcome of their makeup look.

Often times, clients may be shy to speak up. But as their makeup artist, I always advocate for them to do so. That’s why consultations are always important! Yes, you can be the best makeup artist. Yes, you have all the education and makeup skills. But if you can’t advocate for your client and translate what the client wants then it is a disservice to the client and the work that you do.

Beauty is never a one size fits all. It is multidimensional and can be expressed in many ways. It is important for clients to feel at home, with you and with themselves.

There’s something so sacred about the season before a woman gets married. She’s closing one chapter and stepping into another. She’s reflecting. Growing. Letting go…

Becoming.
It’s an ascension of its own.

As a bridal makeup artist, I don’t just see “getting ready.” I sense the quiet nerves. The deep breaths. The weight of everything she’s walked through to get here.

I wanted this shoot to honour that woman…. the one who chooses love…. the one who chooses herself…. the one who is stepping into a new identity with grace and courage.

Because bridal beauty is not just about transformation.
It’s about witnessing her becoming.

For years, it was all about how fast I could finish a look. Now it’s about the ritual of getting a bride ready. Rushing is a thing of the past for me.

I don’t only want to create, I want to curate a bridal experience.

The wedding morning is the one part of the day that can be slow, quiet and hers. After the ceremony, everything moves fast. A bride who feels rushed at 8am carries that tension into her portraits, her vows and her memories. A calm morning lets her arrive settled, with room for taking it all in.

So beyond the makeup, I hold the timeline and the emotions too. I remind her to eat and drink. I truly love taking care of my brides. Everyone deserves a cheerleader on their wedding morning, someone who holds you.

Brides, bridal trials are crucial in your bridal beauty process. You get to rehearse the look months ahead and have the opportunity to make tweaks accordingly. I highly suggest booking one with your makeup artist 6 to 8 months before your big day. Pair it with an event (bridal shower, engagement shoot) so you can see how the makeup wears in real life.
And the most important thing is: enjoy your beauty process. I hear it all the time from my brides, “This is the exciting part because it is for ME!” which is exactly how it should be.

To create the anti-blush look on my bridesmaid, I started with underpainting. I apply liquid blush before any complexion products, so the color sits underneath rather than on top of the foundation. Once her complexion products were in place, I went back in with a second layer of powder “blush,” but instead of a traditional blush shade, I used a bronzer a shade lighter than her usual warmth colour. This step is what mutes the tone of the blush underneath, softening it and pulling it away from that classic rosy flush. The result is an inner blush look. A look that is naturally warm and lived-in dimension with a muted, lived-in flush instead of an obvious pop of color.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Blurring and Matte Full Coverage Foundation
-Since the reformulation, this is a new staple for me. It says what it says: longwear, comfortable, all-day wear. As someone with textured skin, it helps blur and smooth texture. The key is a little goes a long way, then build the coverage from there.

Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer
-A wet-like consistency that makes it so easy to blend, and unlike other full-coverage concealers, it doesn’t dry out the undereyes. The shades also colour-correct to brighten instantly.

-Full-impact, a little goes a long way and gives that natural long-wear flush.
