Some new images of Jenny Seville from Venice courtesy of @nosleeptillinstall 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Something I find fascinating about Saville’s turn toward the language of painting as equal to the themes and subject matter in her work is how she holds the two in perfect tension. She insists on playing with a degree of process with her works in a way that goes far beyond Impressionism and early modernism, and yet she wants the paintings to feel as complete and finished as monumental history paintings. Trying to not only hold the tension between those two positions, but to make it the very subject matter of the work itself is certainly a hyper-modern or a meta-modern phenomenon, and a triumph for the “turn” in her later aesthetic that is on par with the expressive power of Ab-Ex painters late in life, while still holding to a very concrete language of embodiment that feels weighty, like you can reach out and touch the figure in front of you. by @grant.vetter
