POSTS STORIES REELS

these two beauties have been popping up everywhere on my feed lately.

'buckeye' by patrick ryan: a sweeping midwestern saga about two families, a buried secret, and the ties that bind (and break) us across decades.

'wild dark shore' by charlotte mcconaghy: a haunting survival story set on a remote antarctic island. when a mysterious woman washes up during a storm, a grieving family’s isolation is shattered by secrets they can no longer bury.

has anyone read these yet? no spoilers, please! which one should i dive into first?

domestic suspense, but make it backwards. 📖

'kill your darlings' follows a long marriage unravelled in reverse, and while it’s not as twisty as you might expect from a peter swanson novel, i still found it quietly engrossing. the reverse chronological structure kept me turning pages, driven less by shock and more by curiosity - watching the story rewind towards the beginning. it’s more of a slow burn and light on surprises, but i can appreciate the risk of trying something different. an interesting experiment i’m glad i picked up.

there is something truly magical about the way a song can transport you. it captures a specific time, a person, or a memory, making you feel everything from euphoria to profound nostalgia. i’ve always loved reading lyrics - dissecting the deeper meaning behind the words i’ve memorised and finding the feelings the songwriter poured into them. it’s this deep passion for music that made me fall in love with @hollybrick 's debut novel, 'deep cuts'.

the story follows percy marks, a student with a gift for analysing music, and joe morrow, a talented singer-songwriter. their journey takes them from brooklyn to san francisco, and while it might sound like a love story on the surface, it’s really a powerful coming of age journey. it’s about discovering ourselves within the songs that shape our lives.

'deep cuts' is a beautiful reminder that our voices matter and that music gives us a platform to express ourselves. i'm also excited to hear that the film rights have been sold to a24, with cailee spaeny set to play percy and drew starkey as joe.

if you're a reader who loves contemporary fiction with a deep emotional core, and you have an appreciation for the power of music, you need to read this.

'what happens in the dark' by @kiaabdullah is a masterful courtroom thriller that showcases exactly why i have a deep love for the genre. it's not just a gripping legal drama, but a powerful piece of social commentary that tackles complex themes like domestic abuse, the power of the media and the nature of justice with nuance and sensitivity. the story follows safa, a disgraced journalist, as she is drawn back into the life of her estranged childhood friend, lily, a beloved tv personality. when a body is discovered and lily is arrested for murder, she pleads not guilty but initially refuses to speak. driven by a desire for justice, safa begins her own investigation, uncovering a labyrinth of secrets that challenge everything she thought she knew. the plot is meticulously crafted, full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. what truly elevated my experience was the fantastic audiobook. i found myself seamlessly transitioning between reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook. the narrator did a phenomenal job, bringing the characters to life with distinct voices and a perfect sense of pace and tension. if you enjoy a courtroom thriller with a gripping plot and a powerful message, then this one's for you.

my tbr pile is out of control, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about the books i'd love to read again. these are just a few i'd revisit in a heartbeat. do you re-read books, and if so, which ones are on your list?

'luckiest girl alive' by jessica knoll was a surprising read - less of a fun thriller and more of a complex, serious story with a dark undertone. though the pace was slower than i expected and the main character, ani, is quite unlikeable, i found her superficial adult life of fashion and status oddly compelling. the audiobook narrator, in particular, did an excellent job of capturing ani's personality and making her story engrossing. if you're looking for a read that's more than just a surface-level thriller, i'd highly recommend giving this one a try, especially the audiobook!

i never thought cosy mysteries were my thing…until i met molly gray! nita prose’s 'the maid' series completely won me over. i recently finished 'the mystery guest' and 'the maid's secret', and i’m absolutely in love with the world she’s created.

if you haven’t met molly yet, she’s a maid at the grand regency hotel who keeps finding herself at the center of murder investigations.

in ‘the maid’, a wealthy guest dies under suspicious circumstances, and molly’s unique perspective helps uncover the truth. in ‘the mystery guest’, a famous author collapses in the hotel library, and once again, molly’s keen eye is key to solving the case. in ‘the maid’s secret’, a priceless heirloom turns molly into a media sensation - until it’s stolen. to crack the case, she must dive into her late gran’s diary and uncover long-buried family secrets.

molly’s quirky charm, the warmth of her world, and the clever storytelling make this series unforgettable. these books are heartwarming, smart, and filled with characters you’ll carry with you long after the last page. i’m so excited to see the story come to life - 'the maid' is being adapted into a film starring florence pugh as molly gray! but for now, i'm left with only one question... @nitaprose, please tell me this isn't the end of molly's adventures?
