The Penny Loafer, a closet staple since the 1930s, acquired its popular name from Ivy League students who inserted pennies into the instep strap. Despite the common tale that this was for payphone money, it was more likely a fashion statement. Regardless of whether you add pennies, a good pair of loafers is essential. Though not yet a century old, this footwear has become a classic.

Ok ok 4th place in the 2025-26 @stitchdownpatinathunderdome Open Edition!

@grantstone, they make great boots. The Diesel is something of their flagship model, and it’s no-frills in the best way—a perfect just-a-boot type of boot. Pretty much all of them come out looking great. But then we’ve got these, worn by Mike Likes Boots, which seems like an accurate enough name.

Grant Stone makes their Diesel boots in a variety of colors and leathers. This pair’s made with @horweenleather—this time, tan Essex. Essex is made the old way, called vegetable-tanning, aka, they sat around with some tree bark extracts for a while in a tannery.

Some leathers are very consistent—Essex is not. It’s such a natural leather, and because of the way it’s tanned, it can end up in all sorts of places. Man did these boots end up in a fantastic one. Pretty special stuff.
