It’s been six months and Gaza can’t wait a minute longer. The Palestine Emergency Relief Fund aims to get resources into the hands of communities on the frontlines of saving lives as we keep up global pressure to end the genocide.

Grassroots International has deep, decades-long relationships with community-led organizations  throughout Palestine.

Since October, these partners have been critical lifelines for millions of Palestinians, distributing food, clean water, blankets, and hygiene kits to their neighbors in need. Now is the time to stand with them, so that they can continue saving lives and creating a path to a liberated future for all of us.

Each year the Prize is given to two organizations - one domestic and one international - for their exemplary work to advance #foodsovereignty 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾This year's honorees are both notable for sustaining communities whose human rights are under threat of government repression as well as unchecked corporate power. “For us, the seed is not just food –– it is a product that connects us to our identity and our traditions.”

On Rural Women’s Day we spotlight the words of Mariama from Nous Sommes la Solution (We are the Solution), a powerful movement of 14 rural women’s organizations in 8 countries across West Africa that is leading the way in agroecology and food sovereignty.

Mariama speaks to how, through seed exchange, experimental farms, and more, rural women are playing a vital role in moving toward “the sovereignty that Africa seeks.”

Today, and every day, we salute the rural women and all of the food providers across the food system who are nourishing their communities and feeding the world. by @grassrootsintl

Peasant, Indigenous, Black, and working-class women are on the front lines of the severe impacts of expanding corporate power. The extractivist model not only destroys territories and contaminates vital water sources, but disproportionately burdens women with care work and intensifies patriarchal violence.

Popular feminism teaches us that the body and the territory form an inseparable unit of resistance and survival. There can be no true systemic justice without ending corporate extractivism and ensuring a robust Binding Treaty that defends women's lives. 🌿💜

//

“That is not food security. That is nutritional dispossession.”

The following excerpts from the World Forum of Fisher Peoples’ @world_forum_of_fisher_peoples new report on the harms of industrial aquaculture assert that real transformation begins at the local level with our rights, our territories and our food sovereignty.

The report is part of the Nyéléni Global Campaign Against Industrial Aquaculture. It gathers testimonies from fisher and Indigenous Peoples from 9 different countries who are resisting the model of dispossession integral to corporate supply chains. These powerful declarations outline the endurance and resilience of fisher peoples’ local food systems to nourish communities and ecosystems long term.

During NYC Climate Week, the Agroecology & Local Food Markets: A Climate Solution event explored how local and territorial food markets can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, support small-scale farmers and communities, and build thriving local economies.

This event was a powerful reminder that transforming food systems is essential to addressing the global climate crisis. WhyHunger was proud to co-sponsor the event and we’re thankful to all the insightful speakers and organizers! @grassrootsintl @agroecology_fund @the11thhourproject @americanjewishworldservice @thousand_currents @mcknightfdn and Hopper-Dean Foundation

Today, we want to acknowledge Maamankhuu Sodnom, a pastoralist from Mongolia and co-founder of WAMIP ✊

After a lifetime of herding, Maamankhuu turned her experience into collective action, joining pastoralists from across the world to organise for their rights and make their voices heard. She now represents Central Asian pastoralists on WAMIP's Governing Council, bringing the realities and struggles of grassroots pastoralist communities into global spaces.

As FAO features her story for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026, we want to recognise Maamankhuu's contributions to building our movement and strengthening the voices of pastoralist women.

Her journey is a reminder that our movement is built by pastoralists themselves, from the ground up, by those who organise, share their knowledge, and stand together to defend their livelihoods, territories and ways of life 🌱

🔥👉🏾🌾/ Every year on #16oct26 La Via Campesina marks the International Day of Action For Peoples’ #foodsovereignty , and Against Transnational Corporations. This year, as we call upon our member organizations and allies to mobilize, we draw your particular attention to the damaging role that global financial institutions, including the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have played in undermining democracy and food sovereignty in our territories, fostering a neo-colonial structure that subjugates us.

End the Debt Trap! Food Sovereignty with Financial Sovereignty, NOW!.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌞🌞🌞

As Honduras’s right-wing government continues to attack the Garifuna people and their organization OFRANEH, our continued solidarity is urgently needed.

We bore witness to the dire situation first hand when we joined an international delegation to Garifuna territory last month.

ICYMI: Garifuna territory has been under threat for months. In July, 200 Honduran National Police officers stormed the Garífuna community of San Juan, fired live ammunition at residents, and arrested members of OFRANEH. They were charged with “aggravated usurpation” of their own territory—territory recognized by multiple Inter-American Court of Human Rights rulings.

Tech CEOs, narco-traffickers, agribusiness, and tourism investors have all looked at Garifuna territory as ripe for land thefts. And now, to add absurdity to injury, the Spanish version of reality TV show “Survivor” is setting up shop and disrupting turtle nesting season.

As Miriam Miranda says, the wealthy and the Honduran government in their pockets want to make the Garifuna people disappear. But the Garifuna people aren’t letting this happen.

OFRANEH and allies have set up encampments across the country in protest. Continued international pressure can amplify their voices. Take action today: grassrootsonline.org/garifuna by @grassrootsintl

Last Friday, September 25th, over 100+ frontline community members, organizers, activsits and movement leaders from local New York organizations, Indigenous peoples from the so-called US, Global South countries and Europe came together for “What Time Is it? Global Climate Movements Strategy Exchange. About ~40+ DRUM members from across all our bases engaged leading chants, listening exchanges, an anti-imperialist panel with Movement Against Dams and Climate Crisis (MAB/MAR), Friends of the Earth International and Pueblo Action Alliance. There were sharp grassroots internationalist perspectives shared assessments about the shifts in the conjuncture—the compounding crisis of imperialism that threatens and militarizes our homelands and peoples and offers an opportunity for people-to-people organizing for climate justice across the borders. We had dynamic small group discussions and took up the proposal to increase our cooridnation in this next period in defense of our peoples, lands and futures. Much gratitude to our partners: @ggjalliance @foe_int @atingidosporbarragens @grassrootsintl by @grassrootsintl
