🏆 2026 international winner: World Alliance of Mobile Indigenous Peoples & Pastoralists (WAMIP)

Each year the Prize is given to two organizations - one domestic and one international - for their exemplary work to advance #foodsovereignty 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾This year's honorees are both notable for sustaining communities whose human rights are under threat of government repression as well as unchecked corporate power. By organizing locally and regionally to dignify food workers and protect sustainable rural livelihoods they are shining beacons of hope.

Brazil is no one’s backyard. Not Trump’s. Not the U.S. or Israel’s.

Over the past several months, Trump, the right, and corporations based in the U.S. and around the world have been exerting pressure on Brazil to promote the election of far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro over the Workers Party incumbent President Lula.

Bolsonaro is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro and has received support from the global far right who intend to roll back the social programs and environmental protections that Lula’s administration has delivered. Bolsonaro threatens an end to Brazilian sovereignty and will hand Brazil over to the U.S. and foreign corporate interests.

All eyes on Brazil and their upcoming election on October 25! The U.S. must stay out of Brazil’s democratic processes.

Peasant, Indigenous, Black, and working-class women are on the front lines of the severe impacts of expanding corporate power. The extractivist model not only destroys territories and contaminates vital water sources, but disproportionately burdens women with care work and intensifies patriarchal violence.

Popular feminism teaches us that the body and the territory form an inseparable unit of resistance and survival. There can be no true systemic justice without ending corporate extractivism and ensuring a robust Binding Treaty that defends women's lives. 🌿💜

Dear global community, the Ngäbe Buglé Indigenous fishers in Panamá suffered the devastating effects of the recent earthquake and have asked for our help raising mutual aid from our global networks. As of now 69 houses fell due to the earthquake, affecting 300 people in this fishing community.

⚖️ Rights for peoples, rules for business !

Since Saturday, we have been in Geneva with the international delegation from the @stop_tnc_impunity Global Campaign to prepare for the international negotiations to be held at the UN on the legally binding treaty for transnational corporations.

Emmaus International joined the campaign in 2025, with the aim of ensuring that the voices of communities affected by transnational corporations and civil society are heard in decision-making bodies.

To mark the third anniversary of the genocide in Palestine, we took to the streets of Geneva to denounce the role of transnational corporations and financial institutions in the war economy.

We have also launched the ‘Checkmate’ campaign (more information to follow!) ♟️

During NYC Climate Week, the Agroecology & Local Food Markets: A Climate Solution event explored how local and territorial food markets can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, support small-scale farmers and communities, and build thriving local economies.

This event was a powerful reminder that transforming food systems is essential to addressing the global climate crisis. Today, we want to acknowledge Maamankhuu Sodnom, a pastoralist from Mongolia and co-founder of WAMIP ✊

After a lifetime of herding, Maamankhuu turned her experience into collective action, joining pastoralists from across the world to organise for their rights and make their voices heard. She now represents Central Asian pastoralists on WAMIP's Governing Council, bringing the realities and struggles of grassroots pastoralist communities into global spaces.

As FAO features her story for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026, we want to recognise Maamankhuu's contributions to building our movement and strengthening the voices of pastoralist women.

Her journey is a reminder that our movement is built by pastoralists themselves, from the ground up, by those who organise, share their knowledge, and stand together to defend their livelihoods, territories and ways of life 🌱

Some nights you feel 60 years of organizing in one room. September 19th was that night.
The embraces that lasted a little longer. The DJ who kept us moving. The voices that rose from the stage, and the elders who reminded us whose shoulders we stand on. Tables lit by sunflowers, signs that still carry our demands, and a room full of people who came because Sunset Park is not for sale and never will be.
This is what 60 Years In Motion looks like: a community that organizes, celebrates, and keeps going together. Gracias a cada persona que estuvo presente. Ustedes son el movimiento.

Over 1,450 people lost their lives in the tragic floods which occured at the Nepal-Tibet border at the end of August. Over 5,500 are still missing. Last Thursday, Nepali PM Balendra Shah addressed the UN General Assembly and spoke to the dire need to take action as the climate crisis worsens.

Nepal contributes less than 0.1% of global emissions, yet is paying a horrific price for a crisis which they have not created. The cost of rebuilding and repair after this disaster is estimated at approximately $5 billion.

The U.S. and other high-emitting countries must meet their moral and legal obligations to Nepal and other Global South countries that are bearing the worst of the climate crisis.
