It's Mental Health Awareness Month, and we’ve got some big news! On the occasion of the 2026 Men's @fifaworldcup, Grassroot Soccer is bringing our programs to the United States for the first time to support young people’s mental health! ⚽

In the U.S., young people are facing a growing mental health crisis. Between 2016 and 2023, the prevalence of diagnosed mental health conditions among adolescents increased 35 percent, and 2 in every 5 teens in the U.S. reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless in 2023, according to the CDC.

To respond to this need – and help make an impact on the occasion of this monumental soccer moment – we’re working with partners in several cities across the U.S. to leverage the power of the beautiful game to help young people build critical coping skills, resilience, and emotional awareness. 💪🧠

We believe soccer's biggest moment should also be one of its most meaningful. We’re excited to bring our unique and proven approach stateside, helping to turn World Cup excitement into lasting impact for young people across America. 💚

#WorldMentalHealthDay 2026 is focused on "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change."

💚 This World Mental Health Day at Grassroot Soccer, we wanted to hear from the real voices on our Youth Advisory Committee. Composed of SKILLZ Coaches, Master Coaches, and Trainers aged 18 to 30 from the communities where Grassroot Soccer works, the YAC informs the organization’s global activities, approach, and thought leadership, while also connecting members to personal and professional capacity-building and skills-development support.

Our 2025 Annual Report is out now!

Some of our favorite 2025 highlights:

💚 We connected over 2.3 million young people with critical health information, mentorship, and connections to health services

🤩 75,605 young people accessed our mental health program in 2025 – a 345% increase from 2024 – reaching young people across seven countries

🤓 A randomized controlled trial found that SKILLZ Girl participants were 1.6x more likely to test for HIV at 6 months, compared to those in the control group

Special day today getting to interview hat-trick scoring, World Cup winning, last surviving member of the hallowed ‘66 team - Sir Geoff Hurst.

Loved listening to his autobiography and rewatching old footage from ‘Medieval times’ as he called them in preparation. So strange now seeing Union Jacks waving across Wembley as the late Queen presented the trophy to captain Bobby Moore.

As Sir Geoff said, everything has changed in football since then except for the goalposts and the behaviour of the Argentinians(!).

Got the honour with my @grassrootsoccer UK Board Chair hat on, together with Talks @goldmansachs as one of GRS’s valued charity partners, with board members Roberta Moore, Steve Considine, Quinton Fortune.

GrassrootSoccer use football as the hook to educate adolescents in Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere about health based issues from HIV/AIDS to sexual health to gender based violence to mental health, with an evidence-based, trauma-informed program and proven results.

With the 2026-27 @premierleague season just around the corner, Grassroot Soccer’s Fantasy Premier League is also returning!

Entering a team with a small donation to Grassroot Soccer is a fun and interactive way to follow all the Premier League action this season while making a real difference in young lives – every entry helps fuel our programs, which use the power of soccer to equip young people with the life-saving health information, services, and mentorship they need to build healthier futures. The top 10 finishers will receive prizes, too!

Our League will start in Week 2 of the Premier League season. You must join and pick your team before 9:00 a.m. PT on August 28, so don’t delay!
