Celebrating Growth, Achievement & New Beginnings!

Last week, we celebrated our Grassroot Soccer Programme participants as they graduated from SKILLZ Core and Mind SKILLZ!

The afternoon was all about recognising their achievements, celebrating their growth and honouring the journey they’ve taken throughout the programme.

A huge thank you to @grassrootsoccer, @cocacolapenbev @siphamandla_arts_group_ , Someleze The Poet, @maylee_malindi and our incredible coaches for helping make this special day possible.

Here’s to celebrating progress, building confidence and empowering young people to reach their full potential!

Stress is normal. Learning to handle it is a skill. 💚

@lvcthealth in partnership with @Grassroot Soccer , welcomed @shortlist_africa to see @mindskillzkenya dSKILLZ in action at @maonoafrica Centre for Transformation. We began with a conversation with Ken, Director of Maono Africa Center For Transformation , who shared the centre’s work and impact on young lives. Thank you for hosting us! 🙏🏾

Our Mindskillz Kenya coaches then led adolescents through a practical session on “Handling Stress,” exploring how stress affects the mind and body and how to manage it.

By the end, participants could:
✨ Recognise the effects of negative stress on the mind and body.
✨ Understand when stress becomes overwhelming.
✨ Define coping skills in their own words.
✨ Identify at least two healthy coping skills for everyday life.

💡 The takeaway: Excessive stress can affect mental health, but coping skills can be learned, practised, and strengthened.

The day ended on a high note, with young people entertaining us through song and dance and our Shortlist guests joining in! 💃🏾🕺🏾 A beautiful reminder of what happens when young people feel safe, seen, and supported.

With the right skills, young people can navigate life's challenges and build healthier, more resilient futures. 🌱

Mental health matters, and true community impact starts when we break the silence, show up for one another, and take action. This World Mental Health Day, YEDI is bringing youth, community members, and partners together for a powerful day of sports, wellness, and support.

Two years. One Youth Council. So many moments, conversations and lessons. 🌍💙

As the WHO Youth Council 2024–2026 term comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back on what we’ve built together — from advising the Director-General and engaging with WHO teams, to co-creating solutions, shaping conversations and championing more meaningful, accountable youth engagement across global health.

This term has been about more than meetings and recommendations. It has been about showing what happens when young people are trusted not just to speak, but to help shape decisions.

We’re proud of the progress made, grateful to everyone who supported and challenged us along the way, and excited to see where the foundations we’ve built will lead next.

To the 2024–2026 Youth Council and everyone who supported us along the way thank you. 🤍

And to the next term of the WHO Youth Council — this work is yours to continue and we will be cheering you on.

We’re excited to welcome Grassroot Soccer Zambia as an official Platinum Workshop Host at the 2026 Youth SDG Summit!

Grassroot Soccer Zambia uses the power of soccer, mentorship, and youth-friendly programmes to equip young people with the skills and support to live healthier lives.

Through programmes like MindSKILLZ, they help young people build resilience, navigate stress, understand their emotions, and challenge mental health stigma.

At this year’s Summit, they’ll bring this expertise to the room through a powerful, interactive mental health workshop, giving young people practical wellbeing tools and creating space for honest conversations that matter.

Because mental health is not a side conversation in youth development. It is foundational to it. 🧠

Special day today getting to interview hat-trick scoring, World Cup winning, last surviving member of the hallowed ‘66 team - Sir Geoff Hurst.

Loved listening to his autobiography and rewatching old footage from ‘Medieval times’ as he called them in preparation. So strange now seeing Union Jacks waving across Wembley as the late Queen presented the trophy to captain Bobby Moore.

As Sir Geoff said, everything has changed in football since then except for the goalposts and the behaviour of the Argentinians(!).

Got the honour with my @grassrootsoccer UK Board Chair hat on, together with Talks @goldmansachs as one of GRS’s valued charity partners, with board members Roberta Moore, Steve Considine, Quinton Fortune.

GrassrootSoccer use football as the hook to educate adolescents in Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere about health based issues from HIV/AIDS to sexual health to gender based violence to mental health, with an evidence-based, trauma-informed program and proven results.

Bucket-list moment. 🤩

Behind every camp photo is a breakthrough that statistics rarely capture. ❤️⚽

During our parental engagement sessions, we played an eye-opening game: “How well do you know your child?” Questions like, “Who would your child rather talk to when they’re in difficulty?” or “Who is their best friend?” hit home in ways words couldn’t.

Many parents came face-to-face with a sobering truth: children who walked into camp as strangers bonded so deeply with their coaches that they trusted them with their secrets. But we don’t want the magic to stay at camp.

That is why we get parents involved to bridge the gap and extend that safe space right back to the house. When parents learn how to listen instead of being too quick to shut children down, everything changes. The stiffness melts. Taboo topics like period conversations and body changes become open dialogues. Trust is built.

When the magic from camp extends into the home, children don’t just learn they flourish for a lifetime.
