The #justicefornolanwells quilt top and backing are coming together 😊 I was able to use at least one block from each of the 27 people who donated. Unfortunately, 5 donations didn’t make the cut, either bc there was less than a 1/4” seam allowance or the fabrics didn’t play well with the others. I appreciate the effort made by all 🖤 As previously stated, 18 stars will go on the front, and 12 stars will be on the back. I have tried my best to tag everyone who contributed. If I missed you, please note in the comments the page # and position on the page where your star is located so I can give you credit ☀️ taken in West Oakland Farm Park by @gray.matter.makes

Hi 👋🏽 my name is Petra (aka Aunt Tifa). I’m a quilter and collector of tattoos. This will be my one and only #igquiltfest2026 post, and I’m already a day late, but it’s all good 😊 I’ve been quilting for 4 years, and I used to be a joiner of all the groups and sewalongs in my desperate attempt to be seen and accepted by this community. Things are a lot different now. I’ve been sober and living an alcohol free life for 29 months, and I consider this to be my greatest accomplishment. “I used to walk into a room full of people and wonder if they like me. Now I look around and wonder if I like them.” -Rikkie Gale 🤩 Hatred, racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, and xenophobia are not welcome here. #fuckice #fucktrump and fuck all y’all who voted for this 🖤 taken in Oakland, California by @gray.matter.makes

#igquiltfest2025day1 👋🏽 I’m Petra. That’s me on the right with my Canadian 🇨🇦 travel buddy @navanitas last October in #thevalleyofthekings in Egypt 🇪🇬 I started quilting in 2022, so I’m still finding my footing in this community 🖤 I’m a 17 year veteran of the San Francisco Fire Department where I worked as a firefighter/paramedic. I’m also a recovering ER nurse. I’m mostly retired but I still do 1 24hr on call shift a week as a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner. I grew up in Germany 🇩🇪 I’m a childless dog lady, fired up liberal democrat, lover of tattoos and 90s hip hop. I’m a @hamiltonmusical #superfan and I’ve seen the production around 20 times in 4 countries. Last but not least, I’m an Alcohol Free Badass sober for 520 days 😇 I probably won’t post much more for #igquiltfest as I’m easily distracted by shiny things ✨ taken in Oakland, California by @gray.matter.makes

Throwback to that time in 2021 during the pandemic after Iceland 🇮🇸 reopened its borders to non-Schengen visitors and I drove around the entire island by myself during 🐑 herding month and even went as far as Ísafjörður, the largest settlement in the less visited northwestern fjords, to see this dope ass 3D crosswalk 🤩 I really feel like the black sheep in the homogeneous quilting spaces that I’ve entered and it’s getting more and more uncomfortable even in my own guild, which, as far as traditional guilds go, Is prolly as good as it gets. And strangely, I don’t have these same feelings when traveling in predominantly yt countries 🤷🏽‍♀️ taken in West Oakland Farm Park by @gray.matter.makes

This culture of silence, secrecy, and coverups has to change. Twenty five years ago I turned in an SFFD paramedic school classmate for using stolen PALS exams to cheat on tests. I know the personal cost of standing up for what is right. I was ostracized by my fire department colleagues, with the exception of a very few friends. I became clinically depressed which led to years of excessive alcohol use. You may not agree/like what I have to say or how I say it, but I’ll be fucking damned if I let anyone police what I say about issues that I consider to be unjust. Go on and miss me with all that quiet politeness 🙄#antiracistquiltersguild taken in West Oakland Farm Park by @gray.matter.makes

Stickers for the cool kids only 😎 just fyi, things are happening and we are still accepting volunteer applications. If interested, please go the the link in bio on @sasquatch.stitches’ page 🤩 also, it’s totally fine NOT to volunteer if you don’t have any special organizational skills or even time, realistically. My special skill is calling people out, even if that is sometimes done in a petty, passive-aggressive way 😂 We will have periodic updates on our progress, so stay dialed in 🖤 STICKERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE SOON‼️ by @gray.matter.makes

Weekend recap: I only joined @sfquiltersguild for #quiltcamp 😂 which has been epic both times I’ve gone. Got to work on the kickoff block for @tarafaughnan’s 4th season of #blockstudiescollective and I finished a quilt top inspired by the work of @the_official_piecemovement 🤩 also tried #kinusaiga for the 1st time 🖤 by @gray.matter.makes
