POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
"A Greener Bay Compost bucket on every front doorstep in the Green Bay and Fox Cities areas." That was the dream when our small, family-run Community Composting organization was founded just shy of five years ago.

We have done our part to make that dream a reality, by pouring our "blood, sweat, and tears," tons of our own money, and loads of our time, energy, labor, and resources into building our one-of-a-kind business from the ground up, so that our neighbors who want to compost their food waste, but who don't have the time or the ability to do it themselves, can do so, in the easiest, cleanest, most convenient way possible.

Now it is time for the communities we serve, including local businesses and local government, to step up and throw their support behind our waste reduction/landfill diversion mission, if they want us to still be around in five years, let alone for their children and grandchildren.

We very much appreciate the hundreds of Residential Compost Pickup Service subscribers we currently serve, as well as our commercial clients (Kavarna Coffeehouse, Bellin Health, and That Healthy Place), plus all of our compost buyers, for tangibly supporting us over the past five years. If it wasn't for you voting with your wallets for the same cleaner, greener future we want for our area, we wouldn't be here right now.

That said, for us to still be here a decade or longer from now, we need Northeastern Wisconsin to catch up, as a whole, to what we are trying to accomplish here.

We have been spreading the good word about composting and keeping food waste out of our local landfills for half a decade now (which saves every Municipality whose residents we serve countless tax dollars, plus keeps toxic methane out of our environment, and produces a valuable soil amendment for our local soils), yet we still have next to zero support from local government and other organizations.

This needs to change, or, sadly, Greener Bay Compost may eventually cease to exist--maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually--and we need everyone to understand this, because chances are, if we cease operations, this area will never see another "Greener Bay Compost." taken in Green Bay, Wisconsin by @greenerbaycompost

At Greener Bay Compost, we don't just talk about composting food waste--we actually do it, and have been doing it since our founding in July 2021.

Our small, family-run Community Composting organization is the ONLY Residential and Commercial Compost Pickup Service provider of our kind within 100 miles of Green Bay, which owns and operate the ONLY commercial, food-waste-focused compost facility serving Northeastern Wisconsin, and is on track to divert half a million pounds (250 TONS) of food waste/scraps and associated organics from our local landfills (and the trash trucks of the dozens of towns, villages, and cities whose residents and businesses we serve every day) by our fifth birthday, in July of 2026.

We have built our organization from the literal and figurative ground up, with little to no help from local government and no hand-outs. We have funded it out of our own pockets and poured more blood, sweat, and tears (as well as time, energy, and other resources) into it than we can count, and now we are counting on you (yes, you! The person reading this right now) to throw your support behind us, by:

โ™ป๏ธ Signing up for our Award-Winning, one-of-a-kind Compost Pickup Services (www.GBCompost.com/Services)

๐ŸŒฑ Purchasing our nutrient-rich, contaminant-free compost (www.GBCompost.com/Compost) for your lawn, garden, houseplants, etc.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป Following/sharing our content on social media

๐Ÿ“ข Telling your friends and family about us, in real life
nd in real life

If it wasn't for the support of our service subscribers and compost buyers, we wouldn't be here--and if we cease to exist at some point in the future, it is highly unlikely there will ever be another organization in the Green Bay and Fox Cities like us.

That said, don't wait to support us! If sustainability, waste reduction, and composting are important to you, and if you want us to be here for you, your children, and your children's children TOMORROW, we need you to be here for us, and WITH us, TODAY. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

THANK YOU, in advance, for your support! We, our planet, and the communities we all share appreciate it! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป โค๏ธ ๐ŸŒŽ taken in Green Bay, Wisconsin by @greenerbaycompost

We saw this beautiful message on a children's play table at a subscriber's home this morning and wanted to share it: Be a rainbow in someone's cloud. ๐ŸŒˆ

To be a rainbow in someone's cloud means to bring hope, joy, and comfort to a person who is going through a difficult or painful time. ๐Ÿ’”

The famous quote comes from the acclaimed American poet and civil rights activist Dr. Maya Angelou. It uses weather metaphors to teach an important lesson about human connection and empathy. ๐Ÿ’ž

๐ŸŒŸ Core Metaphors ๐ŸŒŸ

The Cloud: Represents hardship, sadness, suffering, struggle, or dark times in a person's life. ๐ŸŒง

The Rainbow: Represents a bright spot, hope, encouragement, and the beauty that follows a storm. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐ŸŒŸ How to Practice It ๐ŸŒŸ

Offer a listening ear: Let someone share their fears and worries without judgment. ๐Ÿ‘‚

Show simple kindness: A warm smile, a comforting word, or a small gesture can change a gloomy day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Help across differences: Angelou emphasized being a blessing to others even if they look, speak, or believe differently than you do. ๐Ÿซ‚ taken in Green Bay, Wisconsin by @greenerbaycompost

#ThatFaceYouMake as a local landfill operator, when you realize much food waste tiny little Greener Bay Compost is keeping out of your landfill, and you don't like it, because it (and the cultural shift toward composting/food waste reduction GBC has kickstarted) puts your "waste management" career (which depends on everyone continuing to trash their food waste) at risk. taken in Brown County by @greenerbaycompost

Prior to #GreenerBayCompost's founding in July of 2021, all the #FoodWaste you see here (and much, much more!) was unnecessarily ending up in Northeastern #Wisconsin's landfills, at GREAT taxpayer expense. But thanks to our one-of-a-kind, Award-Winning Residential and Commercial #Compost Pickup Services (www.GBCompost.com/Services) in the Green Bay and Fox Cities areas, and our HUNDREDS of amazing Service subscribers (who care just as much about their communities and our planet as we do!), this material has been and is being upcycled into a nutrient-rich soil amendment (www.GBCompost.com/Compost) at our commercial, food-waste-focused compost facility (www.GBCompost.com/Facility) instead! ๐ŸŒŽ ๐Ÿ˜

Want to start living the most #sustainable life possible, being an amazing role model to your loved ones, and helping us create a cleaner, greener future for us, our children, and our children's children, starting today? If YES, visit www.GBCompost.com to show your support for and join our mission to keep valuable food waste OUT of our local landfills, by signing up for our Services and/or purchasing compost direct from us for your lawn, garden, trees/shrubs, and/or houseplants! ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿฅ‘ ๐Ÿฅช ๐Ÿฅ“ ๐Ÿง€ ๐Ÿฆด โ™ป๏ธ ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿ… ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿชด

#Reminder: Plastic is NOT compostable. It belongs in the trash. ๐Ÿšฎ

While we at Greener Bay Compost DO accept cheese (as well as the thousands of other types of materials indicated by our List of Acceptable and Not Acceptable Materials for Composting at www.GBCompost.com/List), we cannot and do not accept the plastic packaging it comes in (or the parchment paper squares that may separate cheese slices). ๐Ÿง€

"Source separation"--that is, the act of separating organic, compostable materials (like banana peels, rotisserie chickens, salad toppings, etc.) from inorganic, non-compostable materials (like produce stickers, elastics, plastic packaging, etc )--is what separates composters from most people who simply throw everything in the trash (non-composters), and if we aren't going to source-separate, then we aren't composting or helping the planet or our local community--we're just treating our compost piles, or someone else's, like a garbage can. ๐Ÿ—‘

That said, let's make sure we are all source-separating the way we should, whether we compost in our own backyard or with a Community Compost organization like Greener Bay Compost. โœ…๏ธ taken in Appleton, Wisconsin by @greenerbaycompost

Did you know? It is illegal in Wisconsin to feed commercial food waste containing animal parts or by-products from restaurants to pigs. ๐Ÿ– ๐Ÿšซ

Under Wisconsin Statute 95.10, it is unlawful to feed public or commercial garbage to swine or to receive such garbage on premises where pigs are kept. ๐Ÿš”

That said, restaurants in Northeastern Wisconsin should most likely not be sending their food waste to any pig farmers, even if they ask for it, but rather composting it with the likes of Greener Bay Compost, or finding some other sustainable means of disposing of it. โ™ป๏ธ

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Legal Details โš–๏ธ

Definition of Garbage: The state defines public or commercial garbage as any putrescible animal or vegetable waste containing animal parts or material resulting from food preparation, cooking, or consumption collected from any source, including restaurants.

The Meat Ban: Because restaurant waste almost always contains or has come into contact with meat, poultry, or fish, it is strictly prohibited for pig feed under Wisconsin law.

Even though federal rules under the Swine Health Protection Act allow commercial food waste to be fed to pigs if it is thoroughly heat-treated/boiled by a licensed facility first, Wisconsin's state statute is more restrictive and prohibits the practice outright.

Vegetable Exceptions: Pure vegetable or plant-based waste without animal-derived material does not face the same strict bans, though processing certain commercial food items may still require appropriate state licensing through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. taken in Green Bay, Wisconsin by @greenerbaycompost
