We need your help on this one. It’s not our usual thing . We believe it’s Italian and we think it’s maybe 1970’s but not sure. It’s a very sweet sofa. It’s smaller than it might appear on the photo. It has its original fabric on. That’s all we know but we are very keen to find out more. Any ideas will be gratefully received. Thank you.#midcenturyfurniture #italiansofa #vintagesofa #curvedsofa #buttonbacksofa by @greenham_makers

This is a deep seated Woodstock style armchair. From around 1900.
it is a great example of what we hope for when we start stripping back our chairs. When we bought this, It was green velvet and the usual fat overstuffed arms and seat. Its proportions were all wrong. So this is what we found a few layers down. It has the original fabric on the seat and arms and it’s back to its well proportioned shape.
I really like chairs at this point and see them as sculptures rather than chairs. I imagine them placed in big spaces to be admired and to prompt creative thinking of its past. I do have a wish that one day we have a chair museum as part of our house. There is one in Cornwall which is amazing. Part of it is in the house so you go in and look around. If we had a house museum I’d definitely have this chair in one corner.#antiquearmchair #countryhousefurniture #antiquerestoration #countryhouserenovation #victorianfurniture by @greenham_makers

For some time now we have been working on a collection of lamps with hand made shades. It was really me who decided I’d like to do this alongside the furniture restoration. So Daryl started collecting lamps and I fabric. It’s actually really hard to match lamps with the right shade and fabric. Nothing new to us of course .
This hot weather has meant I have been spending more time on my lampshades .sitting in our kitchen listening to story books it’s been a very nice way to spent the afternoons. So here is our first one ready to go out into the world. All our lamps are PAT tested. Our plan is to have a section on our website selling our lighting.
Hope you like this one. #handmadelampshade #lampshademaker #camellampdesign #sussexcraft #sussexantiquesandinteriors by @greenham_makers

About a year ago I did a run and part of it was through the grounds of a school called Christ’s hospital. As I ran I imagined going to a school that was beautiful, that had character and grounds rather than a field and a concrete bit for everything else. I think I would have like that. My very first school was a Victorian building. I remember it so fondly. I loved its architecture, its particular smell. How it never really warmed up in the winter, its metal window frames that I had to jump up to see out of.I loved all of this. I remember sitting on the parquet floor during assembly and running my fingers over the grooves catching sticky dust.
So a little while ago we got to go into Christ’s Hospital school to buy a chair . We collected it from the school’s museum. Yes, a museum. The museum was on the site of the schools former sick bay. More of a mini hospital really as it was two floors. The museum was closed so we got to walk around on our own. There was one corner that was the original bathroom. A massive deep bath and a sink that was beautiful. Old loo’s again beautiful. The one’s with wooden seats and heavy chains. Next to this was a little room where the nurse would have relaxed. It was so Victorian and exactly to my taste. I feel so comfortable in these places.
This chair had always been in the sick bay. It has three positions from up right to reclines a bit to recline a bit more. I wonder if this chair was for convalescence or visitors. I wonder. I do like the idea of a chair for sitting up chatting then when it all gets too much, pushing it back for a nap.
It’s had the restoration it needed and has two new feather cushions with Liberty fabric.
It’s now for sale on our website#.#libertyfabric #christshospital #antiquerestoration #artsandcraftshome by @greenham_makers

Our latest chair. This is for those who are looking for the ultimate in comfort. This country house classic armchair is from 1900-1910. We have traditionally restored it and it has a new feather cushion . The fabric is a linen by Sanderson called Chiswick grove.
When I thought about the fabric for this chair I imagined it in a yellow room and this is the fabric I chose. I thought it would look good with green and soft pinks too. Some fabrics just make me smile and this is one of those. It is now for sale on our website. #countryhousestyle #countryhousearmchair #countryhouserenovation #countryhouseinteriors #countryhouselivingforever by @greenham_makers

A Heals oak lattice back chair influenced by the architect Philip Tilden. Tilden worked on the renovation and expansion of Chartwell, then owned by Winston Churchill. The chairs he designed for the house were then available commercially through Heals in a few variations of design. The designs have an interesting blend of the Cotswold arts and crafts and the Gothic style. New leather seat and available now. #healsfurniture #philiptilden #cotswoldschoolfurniture #winstonchurchill #chartwell by @greenham_makers

A sunshine chair for a sunshine day.
When I look at my choices of fabric for chairs I can see how they change with the weather. I’m much more likely to choose this sort of fabric in the summer and a dark velvet in the winter. This never makes sense to me because surely it’s in winter that choosing a lovely summery fabric would cheer me up no end. It’s a bit like trying to imagine how horrid the cold feels when you are too hot or imaging eating a salad in the winter or a casserole in August.
These things amuse me no end. Beware,This is what happens to your mind when you work alone. I do wish I had the sort of brain that could not only notice our quirks but understand why we have them. Most of the time when I wonder why we behave as we do I remember we are animals and then I can usually make some sense of our behaviour.
So anyway if you fancy this bit of sunshine in your home it’s for sale on our website.#armchairshopping #antiquearmchair #chairsofinstagram #chairsforsale #chairmaker by @greenham_makers
