My favorite weekday dinner shortcut!

If you love a warm bowl of Kerala Kadala Curry with your appam or puttu, but don't always have the time to build the flavor base from scratch on a Tuesday night—this post is for you.

This Homemade Kadala Curry Masala Mix is the ultimate kitchen companion. By spending just 15 minutes dry-roasting and grinding a big batch over the weekend, you cut your future cooking time in half!

The Recipe Card

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Yield: Approx. 2 cups of spice mix
Ingredients:
Coriander Seeds: 1.5 cups
Cumin Seeds: 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds: 1/2 tsp
Dried Red Chilies:10-12 (adjust to taste for heat)
Black Peppercorns: 1 tbsp
Dried Coconut Flakes (or freshly grated coconut): 1.5 cups
Instructions:
The Seed Roast: Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat. Add the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and mustard seeds. Dry-roast them, stirring constantly, until you hear the mustard seeds start to make a popping sound and a rich, toasted aroma rises from the pan. Transfer immediately to a wide plate.
The Heat Roast: In the same pan, add the dried red chilies and peppercorns. Roast for about 2-3 minutes until the chilies become crisp and slightly darkened. Transfer them to the plate with the seeds.
The Coconut Gold: Turn the heat down to low. Add the coconut flakes (or grated fresh coconut) to the pan. Stir continuously to prevent burning, roasting until the coconut turns a uniform, deep golden-brown color. Transfer to the plate.
Cool Completely

The Coarse Grind: Transfer the cooled ingredients into a dry grinder or high-speed blender jar. Pulse in short bursts until the spices break down into a coarse, highly textured powder. Avoid blending continuously, as the oils in the coconut can turn it into a paste.
Store: Transfer your fresh Kadala Masala to a clean, completely dry, airtight glass jar.

When the chocolate craving hits, make this instead. 🤫👇

Rich, thick, and guilt-free chocolate banana pudding. 🍌✨

No refined sugars—just the natural sweetness of a ripe banana, the superfood power of chia seeds, and the intense, deep flavor of 100% cocoa.

I’ve layered mine over fresh strawberries, let it chill to perfection, and topped it with fresh berries, white chocolate shavings, and a touch of honey.

Save this post for the next time your sweet tooth speaks up!

A little crunch, a little chocolate, and lots of goodness!

Today's GreenRoutine kitchen experiment is a homemade energy bar with layers of flavor and texture.

The base: Roasted rice flakes, lotus seeds (makhana), coconut flakes, cardamom, dates sugar, and banana—all brought together to make a delicious, crunchy base.

The middle layer: Creamy peanut butter, followed by melted unsweetened chocolate chips, sweetened with stevia.

The finishing touch: Roasted pistachios and a sprinkle of sea salt. That little salty bite makes the chocolate even better!

My GreenRoutine thought: I love experimenting with simple ingredients and turning them into something new. A little creativity can make everyday kitchen staples feel special. It's about enjoying the process as much as the result!

Homemade, layered, and hard to stop at just one piece!

A little autumn in a glass, inspired by travel!

During our Best of Britain tour, I was reminded of the ginger shots we had enjoyed on earlier travels through the Scandinavian countries. We bought some during our trip as well. That bold combination of ginger and fresh flavors stayed with me.

So today, I gave it my own autumn twist!

Apple cider from a local orchard, freshly harvested turmeric from my garden, ginger, and a squeeze of lime. Blend it all together, and you get this beautiful, subtle golden drink.

The natural sweetness of apple cider, the spicy kick of ginger, and the freshness of lime make it a perfect fall sip.

My GreenRoutine thought: Sometimes travel inspires us in unexpected ways. We bring home little experiences, memories, and ideas—and make them part of our everyday lives. This one found its way into my kitchen..

My backyard is putting on its fall show!

There is so much beauty to take in right now. The evergreens holding on to their rich green, trees slowly changing colors, fallen leaves creating their own patterns on the ground, and fresh flowers still finding their moment in the sunshine.

And the hydrangeas! They are at their prime, showing off those beautiful deep pink blooms.

Every corner seems to have something new to notice. I find myself slowing down, looking around, and simply enjoying it all.

My GreenRoutine thought: Nature doesn't change all at once. Every plant follows its own season, and somehow, they all make the landscape beautiful together. A lovely reminder that there is beauty in every stage of change.

Today, I'm just enjoying the view.

A little fall creativity, made simple!

I loved making this simple fall wreath using foam rings, jute, and ribbons. A few basic materials, a little creativity, and something lovely to welcome the season!

What I love most? The materials can be reused! When fall is over, I can take it apart and use them for other decorations. Less waste, more creativity.

My GreenRoutine reflection: Sometimes, living thoughtfully is about finding new possibilities in what we already have. With a little imagination, we can create something beautiful without needing more.

Simple to make, joyful to create, and ready for a new purpose when the season changes.

My lucky rose is blooming!

Back in March, I won this rose plant in a lucky draw at a rose-growing class at Pike Nurseries. I brought it home, planted it, and looked forward to watching it grow.

Then came a tough summer—hot, dry, and honestly, I wasn't always consistent with watering.

Yet, my lucky rose held on. And now, in the fall, it's rewarding me with beautiful blooms and the most delicate fragrance.

Swipe through to see its journey, from the day I planted it to its beautiful blooms today.

My GreenRoutine reflection:

I often find that nature teaches us lessons we can carry into everyday life. This rose reminded me that growth isn't always about having perfect conditions. It's about resilience, adapting to difficult seasons, and continuing to bloom when the time is right.

That's what GreenRoutine means to me—observing nature, finding meaning in its everyday moments, and bringing those lessons into how we live and grow.

Back to simple after all the travel!

After days of exploring Britain, I'm happy to be back to my simple everyday routine.

Busy morning? This breakfast takes less than 5 minutes to put together!

Greek yogurt as the creamy base
Fresh fruits of your choice
Protein powder (I used my homemade, pre-made mix)
A sprinkle of sunflower seeds
A drizzle of honey if you like it sweeter

Just layer, mix, and enjoy!

Quick, nourishing, and easy to customize—exactly what I need on a busy morning.

My GreenRoutine thought: Taking care of ourselves doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes, a few simple ingredients and five minutes are enough to start the day well.

Back to my routine, one simple choice at a time.

Day 8 | Bath & Stonehenge — History Beyond Imagination

Bath, Somerset amazed me with its beautiful architecture and layers of history. But Stonehenge left me wondering.

Standing before those enormous stones, built thousands of years ago, I couldn't stop thinking about the people who moved them, the knowledge they had, and what they hoped to create.

How much did they know that we are still trying to understand?

As our Great Britain tour came to an end, I was reminded that the world holds so many stories beyond what we know or can explain.

My GreenRoutine reflection: Nature teaches me to observe with curiosity and stay humble. The more we learn about the world, the more we realize how much remains to be discovered.

Sometimes, the greatest lesson is simply knowing how much we don't know.

Day 7 | Liverpool — When Music is so rooted in your hearts

What touched me most in Liverpool wasn’t just the story of The Beatles. It was watching the people in our travel group as our guide brought that history .

Some may have seen the Beatles perform decades ago. Their excitement and energy as we explored the places connected to the band made it feel as though those memories were alive again.

It reminded me how a song, a place, or a familiar story can take us back to a moment that has stayed with us for a lifetime.

Perhaps that's the beauty of life—what touches us today can continue to inspire someone tomorrow.

Day 7 | Great Britain — Where Childhood Memories Bloom

From Gretna Green, the famous marriage town, to the breathtaking Lake District, today was a journey close to my heart.

As our tour director recited William Wordsworth’s “Daffodils,” I was transported back to my school days, remembering my teacher and the way she brought those golden flowers to life through her words.

Standing in the landscapes that inspired the poet, I realised that some lessons never fade, and some memories bloom afresh even after decades.

I came to admire the beauty of the Lake District, but I left with the warmth of my childhood, the memory of my teacher, and a poem that still lives in my heart.
