Alright y’all.. hope you are doing well out there! ..my new full album, “q u i e t t h i n g s,” is officially out today! Link in my bio!
When I first started this process.. I was just trying to see if I could build a world in my music shed.. spent a few years trying to find something. It’s been a process of late nights.. a bunch of borrowed time. and learning to trust that a "sketch" can become me ha!. ..just had to finish the thought, trust my heart, and let it go.
I’m so grateful to @stevenvidaic for helping me bring the finish line into focus and @theopenness for the rhythm. As well as the most wonderful @mattyphelanmiller for the inspiration and love.
It’s streaming everywhere now. On independent and major platforms. If you have 20 minutes, grab your headphones, jam it in the car, or take it on a slushy walk through the snow today. I'm really curious to hear which tracks you dig. What hits you the most?.. Thks y’all, much love! ..Greg

new single out right now! :)

I’ve spent a bunch of my life as a percussionist and a collaborator. I love music so much. love playing too many instruments ha. grew up playing guitar. But over the last few years, I’ve been making music in my music shed, learning how to build a world entirely of my own.

This new single, "c i r c l e b a c k," comes from that place. I played all the instruments, wrote the song, and sang the parts. It’s a lot different from my previous 8 records, but at the moment it feels more like me than anything I've done before. it started when my friends and i do what we call SKILIG, which is Sketch It Let it Go, i wrote a whole manifesto for it ha! the gist is that you create something and finish it, didn't have to be perfect, just done. that practice has taught me a lot about trusting the process.

of course my wonderful wife @mattymillerstudio is really the inspo behind that process and these songs.

It’s an honor to have @stevenvidaic ears on the co-production and the final mix/master—he really helped bring these tunes to life.

It’s streaming now on all independent and major platforms. I’d love to know what you think of this new lane I’m in. ya dig? 7 more songs to come. hope y'all are well..much love to you all! ..Greg

This is unbelievable. what a beautiful person Paa Kow was. He has gone home. My condolences go to his family and friends. An absolute honor to know him. He will live on forever.. I first met Paa Kow at CU Boulder through Kwasi Ampene. Kwasi had taken me to Ghana, and in the process, changed my life. I had never been out of the US. It opened my eyes and heart up to the beautiful West African culture in ways I will never forget. From visiting Elmina Castle in Cape Coast, to attending an Akan funeral of a famous Nnwonkoro singer, to walking through rural villages playing ping pong with locals, listening to the great Kwabena Nketia lecture, taking xylophone lessons with the legendary Gyil master Kakraba Lobi and his son S.K., as well as with Aaron Bebe Sukura, meeting the queen and king of the Ashante Kingdom, to eating some of the spiciest food I could ever imagine.. completely opened up my world.

After returning home I meet Paa Kow at a gig where I was playing (or at least attempting to play) the Ghanaian Gyil. Paa Kow came right up to me and was so encouraging. We struck up a friendship from that point on. He was even so kind to have me play vibraphone on his album Hand Go Hand Come on the song Don't Cry. He didn't have to do that, he allowed me into his world. I remember showing up to the studio and there was like 15 musicians all completely invested in the music, they all truly believed in the mission of Paa Kow. He had a way of spewing positivity and good energy that it uplifted everyone. My job was to overdub a solo, everyone was huddled around me recording, giving me advice, Paa singing rhythms and melodies to me. Blazing tempo, pretty intimidating.. I'm forever grateful for that experience, one I'll never forget.

Thinkin about it now, he embodied the spirit of that album title.. Hand Go Hand Come.. if you give to someone, you will eventually receive. a philosophy of mutual support and community. also in the music, one drum speaks, and the other answers. ...Thank you for your spirit Paa Kow. A complete master musician but also an absolute stellar human being. Thank you for being so generous with us. Much love to you and your family..Greg by @gregtannerharris

In case you’re wondering where I’ve been… it’s Art Camp time! Having the best time creating with these awesome kids… it is an honor and very grounding to get to work with kids and talk to them about fun topics and hard topics and make things and everything in between. This little recap is from Music & Art Camp taught with my partner @gregtannerharris

Camps are all full for this summer but if you want to be involved next year, the best way is to join my mailing list so you find out when registration is first released.

What do you think… should we run Music and Art camp for adults next year? by @gregtannerharris
