Even when life is good, I grieve the life that might have been. Forever missing my dad.

If you're carrying this too, know that mourning the life that might have been isn't dwelling or being dramatic. You can be grateful for the life you have and still grieve the one you were supposed to have. Both can be true at the same time.

This kind of loss is quieter, and people rarely name them, but it is real. I'm grieving moments that never happened and a future that was quietly rewritten without my consent.

✈️ People see me travelling the world hosting retreats and tell me I'm so lucky. They forget that my dad dying is the reason I started Grief Trips.

My story is not unique. So many of us travel after loss. Because we realise life is short. Because we are living for our person the way they would want us to. Because we're looking for something that makes us feel alive again.

It can feel a little lonely when people only see the travels, and not the loss behind them.

At Grief Trips, travelling while grieving is the whole idea. It is proof that you feel grief differently when it is seen and held by others who get it, and you allow grief to come alongside joy.

And when the loss behind it is witnessed, our hearts for us to appreciate how lucky we are to have found grief friends in each other, given that we can't change our losses. It's hard to explain this with words without experiencing it yourself.

🤍 Everyone is carrying something. You just can't see it. So we walk past each other and carry it on our own.

Grief Trips takes small groups of grieving people away for a week for grief workshops and real travel experiences.

🤍 Maybe you're not tired of grieving. Maybe you're tired of resisiting it. ➡️ Every conversation, the same maths. How much can this person take. Which version of my story do I hand them. Can I let a tear fall, or does that turn it into A Whole Thing.

You've got a version for work. A version for your family A version for the friend who says "how ARE you" with a hug. But none of them are the real one.

So yes. Send me to a grief island, with people who get it.

The thing I love about Grief Trips is how ordinary grief feels. Laughing and crying in the same hour, and neither cancels the other. Someone crying doesn't mean everyone has to stop everything. And other people having fun doesn't mean you can't cry. Nobody explaining their grief, or apologising for it. There turns out to be so much space for grief and joy at the same moment, once none of the room is being spent on resisting the grief.

Here's the part I didn't expect. The island isn't the whole point. You fly home, the tan goes, and what you're left with is this: for six days you stopped resisting grief, and you finally felt how heavy it had been. So back home, with the grief confidence and community you've grown, you begin to put that weight of resisting down, finally.

🤍 It isn't grief you're afraid of. It's that if you stop holding it back, you won't be able to stop.

➡️ So you ration it. Ten minutes in the car. Never on a work morning. Not anywhere you'd have to explain your face afterwards. Which means you have never actually found out what happens if you let it come.

"It was done in such a beautiful way that I could sit with grief and not collapse" is exactly how I designed Grief Trips.

A grief workshop in the morning, and then a lunch. Followed by a beautiful afternoon on a sandbank with crsytal clear waters. Someone crying at dinner and nobody panicking. The same table laughing not long after.

Here's the part people don't expect. The structure is what makes it safe to come apart. Nobody is asking you to be strong for six days. You're being asked to stop bracing, somewhere built to catch you, with people who just get it.

And then you find out the thing you were afraid of doesn't happen. You feel all of it, and you're still play. That you can is what you fly home with.

💬 Comment "TRIP" and I'll send you the details on the next Maldives Grief Trip.

🤍 Wish you weren't here.
For years the sentence in my head was: I got to do this *because* my dad died. Which made every good thing afterwards feel weird or wrong.
Somewhere in my journey the wording flipped. My *Given* that my dad died and I can't change that, I went for the good thing.
Same thing. Different sentence. But it feels totally different.

📍Grief Trips are small-group trips for grieving people. I lost my dad five years ago, and I'll be there guiding you through grief workshops and local hidden gems.

✨💧Imagine finding yourself on a serene sandbank, surrounded by the vast, calming ocean, and realizing that every soul beside you carries a similar yet unique story. Everyone here knows what it's like to lose a loved one. We arrived as strangers, yet in the shared space of the Maldives Grief Trip, we found connection. It’s in these moments, amidst shared laughter and quiet reflections, that we discover it is possible to experience joy even while holding grief. A joy that doesn't diminish our love or grief, but rather expands our capacity for life. A joy we once thought impossible. This journey reminds us that while grief is deeply personal, healing doesn't have to be solitary. There are others out there who get it, who will walk with you, and who understand that the heart can hold both sorrow and sunshine. 🤍
