Grieving during the holidays can feel like we need to put a brave face for others and “suck it up” or “be strong” I want to remind you that it’s ok to grieve, to miss your loved ones, to feel the pain... its normal and natural. I want to encourage you to take this time to have some compassion and grace for yourself. You dont have to or should your way through the holidays.
Big hug my grieving hearts.♥️ by @grievinghearts_

When we get a physical deep wound, we must disinfect it, apply antibiotic cream and a bandage/ bandaid and tend to it to. All that to make sure it heals properly. We remain consistent in taking care of the cut. Now, imagine if we take the time to heal our grieving heart with such care and consistency. It’s just as important as a physical wound. Please take the time to heal your emotional pain. If we don’t the infection of it all will seep into our life. Affecting relationships and our mental and physical health. Just because it’s not visible doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter.

Reminder✨ It’s normal to feel sad, it’s normal to go through changes when grieving. It’s not ok to beat yourself up, it’s not ok to demand that you or someone else should get over it already. If you haven’t taken the time to acknowledge your pain and haven’t began to heal. Then, maybe this can serve as a purpose to let you know that you can heal and say good bye to the pain. Start by having compassion and grace with yourself and others.

I’m sure we’ve all heard these before or maybe even said them to someone. I believe people say them with love and compassion, yet the person going through grief are anything but soothed by these comments. The reason is because no one really knows how we feel, therefore it’s best to just listen and allow the griever to experience their unique experience.

Over the years we have had people in our life, give us well meaning ways to deal with our grief and pain. Unfortunately, they are not helpful instead in many ways, they make us feel worse. These statements cause a greater burden for grievers. What other unhelpful statement can we add to the list?

You can busy yourself, distract yourself. You can say you’re fine and truly psych yourself out and believe it. However, the broken pieces will start to cut you eventually And those around you. You cannot out run your broken heart. Being tough isn’t pretending you’re fine. Being tough is facing the hard truth and pain and dealing with it. For some it’s hard to face, I get it. It’s so hard and sometimes easier to pretend, or sometimes it’s to unbearable to face... it’s ok, it’s at your time and pace. Crawl or walk slowly towards it but please stop running from it. Be courageous! ♥️✨

Here are some tips on how to stop the hamster wheel and face your pain.

1. Acknowledge, Be aware of your pain.

2. Be ok with not being ok

3. Confide in a friend or family member, you can trust to share your heart with.

4. Be proactive in finding help. Ask for help in finding a Therapist, Grief Coach, read books that you can resonate with. Listen to podcasts. Find a support group you can connect with. Lastly, journal your thoughts, allow yourself to just feel and and let it all out as you write.

5. Set boundaries around the people that trigger your pain or cause anxiety around your pain.

6. Remember that your journey will look different than someone else’s. There are no rules on how to grieve.

7. You are not alone, so many of us are dealing with pain. While not everyone’s is the same. Know that in some way we all can understand how difficult this may be.

8. You are brave! ✨♥️ by @grievinghearts_

In the past when I was grieving. I often found myself hurrying my grief. I would hear the noise of others say “be strong” or “it’s time to move on” People meant well, they didn’t want to see me in pain or sad. They said what they know to say because after all, as a society we aren’t taught to allow grievers to feel and validate them. So while I wanted to be “strong” everything inside me screamed what’s wrong with me?! Im I broken? I questioned why i just couldn’t feel better after several weeks and months? Well I realized that there isn’t a time limit to feel a certain way in grief. I was able to validate my pain, I was courageous in facing the pain and the ugly that comes with healing. I realize nothing was wrong with me, I was simply heart broken not broken. I needed to be authentic and in doing so I was able to be brave enough, to not worry about what others believed, I needed to do. Instead I allowed myself to genuinely heal, not based on others belief, of how i needed to grieve. Healing is not easy, it’s a journey with many hills, twists and turns, you may not fully ever arrive to be 100 percent before your loss but I know that you will have light and love and a great deal of experience in being courageous and ultimately you will be at peace. If you can resonate with what I’ve been through, please know that nothing is wrong with you. Be real and raw with yourself and find a safe person to talk to. Validate what you feel and be brave to take on this journey of healing. by @grievinghearts_

How many times have we been told to just be “strong” suck it up? I’m sure it’s been many and possibly by our closest people. They don’t mean ill intent, they think that it is helpful. However, we know it’s not, when you’re in pain you can’t just make it go away without first acknowledging it and finding the root cause and healing the cause. So take your time and feel what you feel. It’s ok ♥️

While in the midst of grieving, nothing seems to help the brokenness... but the one thing I feel that has personally helped me is being heard, feeling validated for what I felt. Empathy can truly help open up the door to healing ♥️✨Do you agree? by @grievinghearts_
