@borregospringsfilmfestival is hands down Best fest in the West, guaranteed. Every night there was a filmmaker event, the first night free appetizers including onion rings and mozzarella bites at the bar and a celebratory, marketing-meets-networking vibe that made it easy to connect and feel supported. There were several professional photographers on staff constantly capturing moments, and the local community was incredibly welcoming and easy to get along with. The whole experience felt warm, organized, and genuinely centered around filmmakers. We were honored to end up winning Best Overall Film and the Golden Cookie Award (which I proudly ate when I got home). taken in Borrego Springs, California by @grillodoc

Honored to have @dimathaman and @davidcardenas275 answering questions after the screening of @grillodoc at the @borregospringsfilminstitute Performing Arts Center during the 13th Annual @borregospringsfilmfestival. We were told by some of the staff that our film was “the one to watch,” and the full round of applause from the audience made it unforgettable. Grateful for the love, the conversation, and this beautiful desert community. 🎬🌵👏 taken in Borrego Springs, California by @grillodoc

Honored to be at the 2nd Annual @sanquentinff —sharing space with incredible people like @judgesonghai, @jennydeandradee, other filmmakers and both formerly and currently incarcerated storytellers. From the red carpet to the prison phone calls that followed, this is what it’s all about: connection, awareness, and hope for the system-impacted community. 🍂 Northern California in the fall never looked or felt more meaningful.

Still glowing from an unforgettable weekend at the 19th annual @poppyjasperiff, where Grillo won Best Short Documentary in the México TÚ Drama category! 🇲🇽🎥

From red carpets at every event to industry panels with seasoned filmmakers, the hospitality was next-level. We were treated to beautiful historic theaters, screenings in vintage barns, and unforgettable meals at local spots like @eljardinrestaurante_ec. Got to meet the legendary @ed_begley_jr, and cheer on our friend @mrpatrickfabian from his new @thewaywespeakfilm as he received the Icon Award.

Highlights? Playing open mic on a vintage WWII-era @gibsonguitar (@willienelsonofficial owns one of only three left!), sipping espresso at @vertigocoffeeroasters —named after Hitchcock’s Vertigo, filmed at the mission right up the road—and connecting with passionate students from @gavilan_college who came out to see Grillo.

The México TÚ Drama panel was a full-circle moment—sharing space with giants like @luisvaldezdoc was deeply humbling.

Huge thanks to @mattiepjiff152 and the PJIFF team for celebrating stories that matter. This one’s for the community. ❤️ #GrilloDoc #PoppyJasperFilmFestival taken in Gilroy, California by @grillodoc
