Wow, did Borrego Springs kinda steal a piece of my heart? This past weekend I got to screen my short ONLY IN THIS WORLD to a PACKED theatre full of San Diego/Borrego Springs community members!

It was such a wonderful weekend full of new connections with filmmakers and locals alike, and I truly loved getting to hang out, stargaze, frolic in wildflowers, and admire some amazing nature.

Thank you to the @borregospringsfilmfestival committee members, volunteers, and film lovers for giving us space to share our stories. Until next time (when I can come back with an AWD car instead of my Prius)!

Grillo follows the story of David “Grillo” Amodio, a man shaped by gang violence, addiction, and incarceration in East L.A. Through candid reflections, David narrates his journey from a troubled youth to repeated run-ins with the law. With the support of Homeboy Industries and Father Greg Boyle, he seeks redemption and transformation. The film delves into the challenges of breaking the cycle of recidivism and highlights the power of community and second chances in rewriting one’s destiny.

Grillo won the Ron Kovic Peace Prize and the Relationships First Award at The MY HERO Film Festival 2024.
