A moment in time. Considering the Lily. Linoprint and graphite on Japanese paper. Variable edition of 4 (pink), a couple of red ones and one or two artist’s proofs.
It’s time to put these away for now and move on, have a bit of a sort out and enjoy the Summer. by @grimmondpam

Considering the Lily. Linoprint and graphite. Unresolved print. It’s too red, it’s too pink, I need to crop, to focus, to commit. The printmaker’s dilemma! by @grimmondpam

In a corner of gallery 17 at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, containing flower paintings, inlaid furniture and clocks, I noticed this intriguing painting by Lubaina Himid, ‘Men in Drawers for Throwing Things 111’. The next artwork I was drawn to, less than one hour later, at the Heong Gallery at Downing College, named Aunties 8, was also by Lubaina Himid. I noticed a dovetailed joint from a re-purposed crate of some sort was joined to beautifully carved pieces of wood which could have come from cathedral architecture. I moved in for a closer inspection.
Rachel Rose Smith in her essay for the catalogue for this exhibition, Ten Good Years, says, ‘As with the artist’s…painting on drawers or tea services, they make the gallery space more theatrical, encouraging viewers to move their own upright bodies in all kinds of directions.’
It’s sometimes an effort to get out and about but it’s always worthwhile, thought provoking and inspiring in so many ways! by @grimmondpam

Lily Days. Linoprint and graphite. Work in progress.
I’ve let the print lead the way with this one and inevitably it came to the point where I told myself I was making ‘bad’ art. However, being unable to either stop printing or bin my work I persisted in trying to find a way through. I’ve enjoyed discovering the wonderful transparency of @hawthorn_printmaker inks, although it could be said I’m an old hand at using transparent inks, somehow this time it was different. I’ve also enjoyed working in my cool studio while it’s been boiling outside. The Lino was soft and rolling the ink a joy. Everything felt calm and right and, whatever the outcome, I feel grateful to have this process in my life. by @grimmondpam

Flower studies in pencil and crayon. I’m becoming mesmerised by the frills and folds within this striped lily and getting sidetracked by the colours… by @grimmondpam

Flower studies in pencil and crayon inspired by recent visits to the Pavilion Gardens at Buxton and RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate. I’m in awe of the sheer beauty and vigour of these wonderful plants. On the surface they seem so delicate but their vigour and strength is always amazing. by @grimmondpam
