@hestercoxprint here, yesterday members of @printmakerscircle gathered for a lovely meeting at John Jones house in Staintondale. After the brief business bit, we had a very nice lunch followed by a mini workshop making spiral bound books of prints (thanks to John’s expertise). John also showed us the newest addition to his print collection which is a stunning copperplate engraving of one of the 738 plants collected by Sir Joseph Banks on Captain Cook’s first voyage around the world. It is part of a very limited edition created by Alecto Historical Editions. The detail & à la poupée printing is incredible. An inspiring & sociable day out ☺️

‘Yet but awhile the slumbering weather flings
Its murky prison round - then winds wake loud;
With sudden stir the startled forest sings
Winter's returning song - cloud races cloud,
And the horizon throws away its shroud,
Sweeping a stretching circle from the eye;
Storms upon storms in quick succession crowd,
And o'er the sameness of the purple sky
Heaven paints, with hurried hand, wild hues of every dye.’
From John Clare’s ‘The Shepherds Calendar – November’
.
‘Weathervane’ by Pam Grimmond appears on the cover of Slightly Foxed Issue 43.

Sharing a bit of 'Print Friend Friday' love whilst spreading the word.
-
Yep, it's already time for #printfriendfriday - a hashtag where printmakers try to accentuate the 'social' side of social media... an idea started by @karin_rytter_studio which is certainly catching on.
-
I thought I'd use todays grid as a follow up to yesterday's post about @zillahbellgallery fundraising exhibition in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee's Ukraine Appeal. The gallery is kindly donating all gallery commission on any sold work, and the artists are adding some of their commission too.
-
It's a mixed exhibition highlighting some of the fantastic painters and printmakers this gem of a gallery represents and is certainly worth a look.
-
Alongside these nine there is work by other RA printmakers such as @emmastibbon, @normanackroyd and Ian Ritchie, plus @jasonhicklin, @ian_m_brooks, @rosslovedayart, @sallyadkinsstudio, @dmsprintmaker and many others. These sit alongside some fabulous painters such as @deborahgrice_art, @katharineholmesartist, @jamesnaughtonart and @robnewtonartist.
-
There's too many to list here, but do pop across to the Zillah Bell Gallery's feed to find out more.

‘O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being,
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,

Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes: O thou,
Who chariotest to their dark wintry bed

The winged seeds, where they lie cold and low,
Each like a corpse within its grave, until
Thine azure sister of the Spring shall blow

Her clarion o'er the dreaming earth, and fill
(Driving sweet buds like flocks to feed in air)
With living hues and odours plain and hill:

Wild Spirit, which art moving everywhere;
Destroyer and preserver; hear, oh hear!’ From Percy Bysshe Shelley’s ‘Ode to the West Wind’
.

A few pics from my mum’s print studio in 2019. Obviously I’ve been back since then, but weird to think how long it’s been since I actually set foot in my parents’ house...
