Last night I had the honor of being a guest on the incredibly powerful @iwstbh podcast, produced by @conyersmedia and hosted by award-winning author @justjonathanconyers

We talked about my journey, from growing up in the foster care system and navigating a difficult childhood, to becoming the founder of @GetFocused and Executive Chairman of @GoldinBrands

For the first time, I shared parts of my story I’ve never spoken about publicly. Looking back, it’s amazing how some of life’s hardest moves become the very things that prepare you for your purpose.

A huge thank you to the entire production team: @griotz @gabrieltaliaferro @sc00p___ @lareseking for creating a space where I felt comfortable enough to be completely authentic.

I can’t wait for you all to watch this conversation. I have a feeling it’s going to resonate with a lot of people❤️ taken in Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York by @griotz

Welcome to #thehood Ep.1 “The Neighborhood”

In a gentrifying Harlem, Qualah — a quirky, struggling actor and single mom — is trying to figure out who she is while helping her daughter prepare for motherhood.

This isn’t just about growing up.
It’s about Motherhood. Fatherhood. Sisterhood. Brotherhood.
Adulthood. Childhood. Singlehood. Neighborhood.

It’s about breaking patterns while the block is changing.
It’s about love that’s complicated.
It’s about finding yourself through “the hood” of life.

Last year I’ve been more present in my art.
More intentional. More grounded in why I create, not just how it looks.

I’ve spent a lot of time behind the camera—building, producing, holding space for other people’s stories. And that season mattered. It sharpened my eye and deepened my respect for the craft.

But performing at Shiggy Slam reminded me of something important:
my voice still belongs in front of the mic.

Grateful for rooms curated with intention by @theshiggyshow and @qualahquickie —spaces where presence matters more than performance.

This isn’t a comeback.
It’s a return. 🎤 by @griotz
