Volume 17 is here, and we’re taking it to the Tetons. To celebrate, we’re hosting a party in Jackson, Wyoming with our friends Zeb and Kate of @gritgeneral. MH Founder @tylersharpphoto will host a short talk and Q&A with artist @markmaggiori about their four-month collaboration, and we’ll have limited signed copies available with the purchase of a subscription.

We’ll also have limited-edition posters featuring one of Mark’s sketches, drinks from @wildcommonspirits and a raffle at the end of the evening for some prizes, including a few tickets to Mark’s sold out show on Friday September 18th. We don’t get to do this often, and it’s always better in person, so come help us celebrate the launch of another great issue and kickoff the fall arts festival.

Thank you, Jackson. Thank you locals. Thank you vacationers. Thank you family and friends, and visiting tourists that feel like local friends after a visit or two. Thank all yall. Without your love and support, we’re just a lonely ol closet at the base of a hill pumping out outlaw with no one to dance…

Mid-summer monsoons come on quick at six thousand feet, transforming our Tetons into something more like Mordor. But either or, pick your peak, there’s a toughness needed when the storms roll in. Fortunately that’s one thing @ironheartdenim has in spades.

The second of two belts we designed with our old pal @ziphtc is maybe a bit nearer & dearer to my heart…

“No Guts No Glory” was the most oft-repeated expression of my youth. My dad doled it out so routinely that it just became our lil de facto slogan. Twenty years later, and truly unaware of that shared memory with dad, my mom gave me a silver cuff with the same motto roughly stamped across its length, that I’d go on to wear daily.

So in a very real way, that phrase has been with me my entire life.

And it’s a good one. Guts are important. I’m grateful to have been taught their place and value from the start. But guts alone won’t get you where you need to go in this world. That’ll take equal parts grit. So here we are.

Roughout steerhide, all cut, beveled, and studded by hand, with real brass and genuine turquoise, at Zip’s workshop out west.

Most folks attribute rhinestone studded belts to 50s and 60s biker culture. But they actually originated much earlier than that and a bit closer to home, right here in the old west a lil over a hundred years ago. “Bronc belts” were worn by rodeo riders for back support amidst all the bucking, and quickly became a place to showcase some style on the side.

This one, where the *gems* are placed atop the highest of the studded peaks surrounding Wyo, is our take on the classic.

It’s the first of two belts we’ve been lucky enough to create with my old pal @ziphtc, all made by hand in his California studio. Each one’s a bit different, come n find yours ✌️🤠 taken in Jackson Hole, Wyoming by @gritgeneral

Market week is a marathon of neatly packed micro sprints, taking you from 19th century ice houses to long defunct megastores, all repurposed and chopped up into little stalls for a few weeks a year so small brands can present their new collections. It’s always a good time reconnecting with old pals, and inspiring to see the new styles they’ve spent the past season crafting. But for the uninitiated, boy there’s a lot of noise... bad noise, busy noise, manic noise, and some good noise, too. If you don’t constantly remind yourself why you’re there, it’s real easy to wander off path…

For me a lot of the fun lies in developing new styles with old friends, and this year, turning long held conversations into hard won partnerships. It was a super successful trip, and I’ve never been more excited about all the very cool things we’ll be bringing to Grit over the season ahead, many of which won’t be available anywhere else in the world.

That said, nothing like going away to be reminded of just how much you love home ✌️🤠 🏔️🌲 taken in Grit General by @gritgeneral

After a year plus working with @benmussermusic on multiple levels, we were touched and honored when he asked to have his record release party at the shop. When over 400 of you stepped through our small door on a random Thursday night, we were touched, honored, and shocked!
In a town and a season where there is no shortage of places to go and people to see, the fact that you came.. and stayed... with us, all night, is a proud fucking moment.

Big thanks to Ben & Walker for the flowing jams, to Andy & @wildcommonspirits for the flowing juice, and to you, your ringing ears, and your seemingly insatiable gullets for all your solidarity and support. We genuinely cherish each and every one of you 💛🤎

Warming weather means two things: get to the river & find yourself some Tencel. Made from dissolved wood pulp, it has the breathability of linen mixed with the drape and softness of silk. And thanks to our pals over at @wythenewyork, their take on Tencel landed in this sweet, early 70s western cut, leveled out in a rich, midsummer Sage…
