In December 2025 right before my 32nd birthday, I experienced my first big break up, a 7 year relationship came to and end whilst I was overseas and at one point the heart break was so painful i literally felt the ache in my physical being, a somatic response to what ultimately was one of the hardest emotional challenges I’ve ever had to face. My whole life changed. I changed. And I haven’t spoken about it until now.

I was living in Mexico at the time, a place that healed me and guided me through the transition. A place that brought me so many new friends and experiences I could never have in my wildest dreams imagined.

Through the heart ache I lost my desire to share, and to create. It’s taken me almost a year to edit the photos from my trip because going through all of them meant reliving the moments leading up to the break up, and the months there after. It was a time of extreme happiness and yet simultaneously experiencing extreme sadness and grief, letting go of the future I’d imagined for myself and trusting that there was more out there for me. It was a really confusing time.

Almost a year on, I finally feel ready to create again and start sharing. To start playing more and pursuing my love of music. I had the realisation that if I wasn’t making a decision based on what I thought was expected of me, or for feeling the pressure of time, and money, I’d want to DJ, play music, I truly feel that is my soul’s expression.

“If you only listen to one genre of music… do you really like music?”

This came up in my conversation with @sociedad.anonima.an and it really got me thinking.

There’s often pressure in the industry to define yourself by one sound, but for a lot of DJs, music doesn’t work that way. Taste evolves, influences overlap, and creativity often lives in the in-between.

Being multi-genre isn’t about lacking direction, it’s about understanding flow, energy, reading the room and learning how different sounds can connect to create a journey.

At the end of the day, it’s less about genre and more about how your music makes people feel.

Part 4 of chatting all things DJing with @sociedad.anonima.an 💿 We got chatting about getting into the industry and advice for female DJs.

Honestly, for me it’s always come down to just practicing, building confidence over time, and backing yourself even when you’re still figuring things out.

Showing up has been a big one too and i can’t stress this enough 👉 being present in the scene is important - going to events, supporting what’s happening, and connecting with the people behind it. Buy the ticket, go to the gig!
