Beloved community,

I’m writing to you this morning from a hospital bed. Two nights ago I was admitted to the hospital with swelling in my legs and dizziness/confusion that was very unusual for me — it turns out that the cervical mass had grown/shape-shifted enough to obstruct my ureters, blocking my kidneys’ ability to filter out toxins through the bladder & putting me in renal failure. Gratefully, the medical team here was able to get me to a more stable place — I’m on medications to rebalance my electrolytes and also now have small tubes that were surgically implanted directly into the kidneys that drain externally into bags. These interventions have been extremely helpful and I’m grateful to say that my health is trending in the right direction.

Up until this point, I had been putting EVERY effort into various alternative treatments and doing whatever I could to avoid chemo and radiation that would put me directly into menopause. It is clear to us as a family that my body is asking for more aggressive help, and we intend to do whatever it takes. We will be discussing chemo and radiation with my oncology team over the coming days. Once the mass has shrunk significantly, I will likely be able to have these tubes removed and normal function returning to my kidneys.

All of this being said, my life is about to look very, very different and I need your help to assure that my family and I, and especially Ash have the care that we need to get through this most challenging time.

We still have our GoFundMe running from earlier this year in the case that you or a relative of yours may be in the position to donate. You can find a link to that in my bio.

I know there are so many people and places to share resources with at this time, and I want you to know how grateful I am for your loving support in ALL the ways it has and will come.

Praying for health, happiness and harmony for all 🙏🏼

With a great deal of love and in faith,
Alex 🕊️

Alexandra Lane Crow was born on September 30th, 1988 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the oldest of four sisters and mother to one son, Ash DeMartini. After two years of bravely battling cervical cancer, Alex was reunited with her stepfather and beloved grandparents on December 18th, 2024 at 11:40 AM EST. She was 36 years old.

Alex was a graduate of Saint Ursula Academy in Toledo and went on to graduate from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles with a major in dance. From the age of 2, Alex had a passion for dance that was known by everyone who knew her. This passion for dance and eventually yoga, led her on many adventures all around the world. From backpacking through Europe, studying Yoga in India, to spending months with the locals in Peru, Alex always had a curiosity and a deep respect for different cultures. San Francisco, one of the many places Alex lived, is where she met the love of her life, Gregory DeMartini. Together they went on to live in many places, most recently, Dripping Springs, Texas where they found the loving community of the Native American Church.

Alex is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Thees and her father, Bradley Crow. She was a loving mother to her young son, Ash DeMartini and proud partner to Gregory DeMartini. She was loved and admired by her younger sisters Samantha Crow, Taylor Thees, Jamie Thees, and younger brother, Nolan Crow. Beloved by sister-in law Sarah DeMartini. Alexandra was cherished by her cousins Brad (Lisa Burke) Riggs, Jackie (Adrienne) Gregory, Andy Sheer, Lane Sheer and her Aunts and Uncles, Lynda and Larry Riggs as well as Lucinda and Rick Sheer. Alex also leaves behind a large community of loving friends. She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Mark Thees, and her grandparents, Fred and Dolores Hunt and Donald and Gerry Crow.

The family will be having a private burial upon Alex’s wishes. Donations can be made to a GoFundMe benefiting her son, Ash and partner, Greg. You can find the link to that in the bio. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care they provided to Alex in her final months. by @groundedcrown

Time has no bearing when it comes to the loss of our loved ones. In one sense it’s been a year, but in every other dimension of heart and mind it’s been eternity inside of no time at all. All I know is that I miss you. You shocked us with your passing and I’m still feeling the reverberations of that impact - I likely will for a while. Thank you for being with me in the sweetest and most tender moments this year when I needed a loving presence with me most. Your love of music is a thread that keeps us strongly tethered and I thank you for that. Wishing you peace & joy Marky, you, your daughters and all of your loved ones. by @groundedcrown

Following one of the best days I’ve had in quite a while, I decided to film one of my favorite prayers — a Waldorf kids singalong! Soon after I finished the rains came back… it’s just been that magical today.

I hope you sing along with me!

I started a new treatment protocol last week. During the first round of chemo infusions I received what I can only call a gentle but firm smack in the face from Spirit (the Great Mother specifically). She was instructing me to pray the rosary. At first I was a bit confused, as I have a japa meditation practice that I learned from my yogic studies, which is quite similar to the rosary. But no, She insisted that I find a rosary and begin to pray with it — blending the Catholic prayers that I was raised under with the Eastern mantras I had learned to love.

The inspiration that flowed from that moment of Divine Inspiration was nothing short of incredible, and with the help of our incredible community I was directed to the work of @wohemiwo who designed this exquisite custom rosary for me.

Blessed be the Great Mother who guides my path, and all those who walk with her. May we each know the infinite Love that she shares and teaches, and may our prayers touch one another with the Light of Life.

So very grateful.

🤍📿🙏🏼

Big love to @catorilife as well for these beautiful ring adornments, talismans of protection and love.

It’s been a rough week. The first week after chemo is always pretty intense, but this week felt especially heavy emotionally. I do what I can to orient myself towards gratitude and grace, but man this week I had just been feeling so DONE. Exhausted. Fed up. I’m tired y’all. And yet I know there’s no use in complaining because I just have to keep going anyways. No way out but through.

Where to find the strength tho when it feels like you’ve been running on empty for months now? Of course, from the only infinite source there is - the Spirit.

So with a gentle nudge from my Momma, I’m back at the beading table — the place that held me while I was hospitalized for 11 weeks last year. Certainly a place of refuge, but more importantly a place of prayer.

Even tho I haven’t been able to pray with my community in person for months now, I can still integrate the teachings of our way of life here at home — when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I can remember to pray for others.

So here I am, beading a set of earrings for a special sister, and the alchemy has already begun…

Wherever or however you may be struggling, I hope you can find that thing that helps you to step back onto the path with Grace.

I love you.

On this “Earth Day” may we act upon the remembrance that we are all Earth’s children — born through the love of our Original Mother.

Each of us, infinitely worthy of the bounty of love that our Cosmic Parent offers us.

Every time we gather in circle with love & respect - especially in prayer - we are bridging our connection with Earth as life-giver, for in that simple act of coming together we are answering Earth’s original prayer for Unity.

The original instructions that we can feel in the depth of our own hearts are Gaia’s dreams too - She gave them to us upon our arrival here. This immortal dream vision is our sacred duty to uphold, should we choose to accept it.

One circle.
One heart.
One mind.
One family.
One Earth.

In prayer, Alex 🌈

So very thankful for these photographic memories of @jeanelle.salvo and I’s most recent gathering, Enter the Grove at one of our favorite places in the Hill Country, @hillcountrynatureretreat

More seeds being planted in alignment with our original instructions via @earthstar_nature_collective

As my hands gently strike the drum,
I am literally remembering myself
Into reunion with the Sacred Circle of Life.

As I relax into the rhythms,
Simply allowing them through me,
I feel my body and blood harmonizing with the Earth body — the internal waters finding their flow once again.

For me, this practice is simple medicine — pure & deeply loving.

Through the drum, the Mother wraps me in her wide embrace
And I am re-membered.

Whatever is played then becomes an offering,
A sweet dance of reciprocity — love passing back and forth
Through and in between my fingers
Weaving golden threads of healing for all that still feels caught in the idea of separation.

If cancer is an expression of the pain of separation, then practicing and playing like this, making these kinds of intentional offerings feel more important than ever.

Whether or not you are faced with a life-threatening illness or passing through a period of profound loss, I pray you are each finding your way to your version of the drum — whatever supports your remembering, may your focus turn in that direction of Love.

Bless • bless • bless

ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ,
Om Mani Padme Hum

I’ve been working with this mantra in japa meditation as a way to protect my mind and anchor myself in my true heart. This is a well known mantra that comes from the beloved Heart Sutra. May this offering ripple out to you all in waves of everlasting love.

And a woman spoke, saying, Tell us of Pain.
 And he said:
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
 And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.
