@morriarchi and @pertrelli Purple took almost five years to shape "Light on My Feet": a record of half-lit streets, long train journeys, blurred edges and grooves built to outlast fast-food release cycles.

Music made at its own pace, away from trends and the exhausting need to please everyone.

We spoke about unlearning grime, making space for emotion, building albums instead of playlists, independent music, and why The Bourne Identity might explain the whole thing.

Light, but vital.

Agent of the North, Pertrelli Purple has been quietly working away creating hidden gems for some time now ,
alongside Morriarchi , the two elusive entities have chiseled out a defined sculpture that portrays the ebb and flow of life when navigating loss.

From early appearances with fellow Leeds residents The Northaze to choice cuts with u.k. stalwart Verbz , Pertrelli’s
music has always teetered on the edge of the U.K. hip hop world as much as it has brewed in alternative realms.

Despite occupying a very familiar space for some , Pertrelli’s music has not been rooted in one direction, never more clear than in his 2023 Brownswood : Future Bubblers contribution, ‘Brisk’.

Morriarchi’s production is noticeably lighter and pillowy in texture, reinforcing the dreamy quality of the album ,
but also creates items with sharp edges when needed
Mixing in the same measuring of grime as they do does alternative rap, Pertrelli and Morriarchi craft a varied yet
interlinked body of songs that indulges experimental approaches as much as it does conventional ones.

Certainly in terms of content (loss, grief, broken friendships) it can sit comfortably with works from lauded US counterparts MIKE , Navy Blue, Earl etc but it’s also delivered with a unique swagger that is distinctly of the UK in both conception as well as in execution , situating it more in-between Kofi stone and Joe James.

Featuring Chicago phenomena Semiratruth, UK trailblazer Jadasea, Leeds cohort Swish and Boston vocalist KAYANA
(whom both artists preciously worked with on Morriarchi’s joint 2023 project with Koncept Jackson) the guests
add a balance to the project that goes past just a cool 2nd verse or neat hook and make indelible imprints on the
album that compliment it as well as drive it forwards.

‘Light On My Feet’ is as much about growth as it is about loss, weathering the storm but savoring the rain,
separating the parts of yourself you leave behind , the ones you take with you and the ones you set free.

Enjoying doing these themed instrumental pieces.

Get to zone in on a specific section of a genre or moment in time, delve in, find what works, which makes the whole thing a bit more of a challenge / puzzle to solve supposed to just mashing loose beats together like i did in the past.

‘No Problem’ by @morriarchi

A collection of instrumentals derived from the sounds of UK street soul circa 1984-1994.

This has been a long time bucket list to do, and probably is just scratching surface....

Unlike its US counter part and musical older sibling , UK street soul was a little more raw, more sultry, slightly macabre and dare i say it a bit funkier???

With Loose Ends, Omar, Soul II Soul leading the charge, lesser known but equally important groups like i-level, 5th of Heaven, En - To - End to name a few made a savage impact on the scene and its adjacent sub genres.

A product of loosely wired sound systems, love letters, weekend shirts, panda pop and dunkable biscuits.

Named after the short lived TV show ‘ No Problem’created by the Black Theatre Co-operatives and featuring the illustrious cast of Victor Romero Evans, Shope Shodeinde, Chris Tummings, Judith Jacob and the phenomenal Janet Kay.
