Hard to believe it's been over 2 years since our first public show in Feb 2024!

This celebratory exhibition brought together the creative work of technicians and associated staff at The Glasgow School of Art. Work is from across the disciplines, including sculpture, photography, textiles, painting, printmaking and digital.

The majority of technicians, studio and workshop assistants in the exhibition are from the Technical Support Department. This department supports learning and teaching across the four schools of GSA – Innovation & Technology, Fine Art, Design & Architecture. This highly skilled group of staff are practising artists and designers as well as technicians.

A warm welcome to our second Printmaker in Residence this year, @bethcowey. Beth is an @glasgowschoolart @gsa_paintandprint 2018 graduate. Beth uses a process-based inquiry combining monotype, screenprint, photopolymer etching, and painting through layering, cutting, covering, and collaging. We’re excited to see what she comes up with over the next few months in the workshops!

The first of our Printmakers in Residence, Dominic Snyder (pictured with Printmaking Team Leader @aoifekmcg), has been exploring stone lithography at Glasgow School of Art over the summer, with fantastic results.

It’s been a pleasure to have Dominic working alongside our Masters students during Semester 3, sharing the workshop and contributing to the vibrant exchange of skills, ideas and approaches that makes our printmaking community so special.

What is the value of a building?

Last Thursday night we opened Project in the City 2026: Values at Risk at WASPS South Block, Glasgow.

We often think of value in economic terms. But buildings also carry cultural, emotional and material value — they hold memory and identity, contribute to a sense of place, and embody significant energy and resources.

These values do not always align. A building may make sense to demolish economically, while still holding important social, environmental or cultural value.

The exhibition does not try to resolve this tension. It makes these different values visible — through archival research, material inventories and reuse proposals — and invites reflection and discussion.

Developed by Master’s students at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, The Glasgow School of Art, in collaboration with Glasgow City Council, Hopkins Architects, SAVE Britain’s Heritage and Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, and hosted at WASPS South Block.

Many thanks to Paola Pasino, Henrietta Billings, Nick Walker, all partners, students, the GSA technical staff, and everyone who joined us at the opening.

‘Blend and Press’ paper making workshop held last Friday as part of the L&T Student Partnerships glasgowschoolofart. The workshop used natural and recycled materials. Two more workshops are scheduled for the beginning of May for School of Fine Art students.
