I never thought I'd be here...

I know it's cliche to say but it's been an absolute journey for me to get to this point. Four years ago I got diagnosed with a debilitating spine condition that left me with pain, depression and anxiety like you would not believe. It got so bad that I actually left my job, moved home, and took off an entire year to get better. I seriously never thought I would see the day. After a dozen orthopedic visits and frustrating trips to chiropractors, I finally found Jerry Erickson and his team at @optimumhealth_exercisetherapy who saved my life. Over the course of that next year I would work with him at times 5 days a week. He made unique adjustments to my body that were designed to put it in the right position to heal. Then he started me on a rigorous training protocol in the weightroom. I eventually gained the confidence to resume working while continuing physical therapy. I gradually started getting back into sports and I was becoming stronger every day. I still do physical therapy to this day because my condition has not entirely healed but I am relieved to say I am 85-90% better. Progress is never linear. Sometimes I regress and have to look back at my progress to keep me motivated. This weekend is surely something I will look back on.

This weekend I completed my first marathon with my cousin @connorryan. It was an absolute battle. Started up at a 7:27 pace and held it for the first 21 miles. Then we hit the notorious "wall". Not only that but we faced 20mph head winds for the last 10 miles on Atlantic Ave and the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Those last 5 miles were beyond brutal. My body shut down, nothing worked anymore, everything hurt, my pace slowed but we powered through. We arrived at the finish line just after the 3hr and 27 minute mark shivering and barely coherent. We ended up finishing 73rd and 74th overall and 11th and 12th for our age group (20-29). Technically, we did not meet our target time but it was a solid show of courage and something certainly to be happy about for our first go at it. It was especially awesome getting to do something like this with family. Thanks for everyone that came out to show support! by @gtayallday
