Meet Jacques Gay, a Ph.D. student in computational organic chemistry who conducts research in the Kamerlin Lab.

Jacques is also a @gt_chem graduate teaching assistant.

“The best part of being a TA is interacting with my students and watching them succeed!” 🐝

After graduation, Jacques aspires to become an academic professional in organic chemistry. They plan to do research in undergraduate education and graduate student well-being and help redesign undergraduate curricula.

When they’re not in the lab or the classroom, Jacques follows another passion: the culinary arts!

💛 Thank you for supporting our students, Jacques!

Which awesome GTA should we spotlight next? DM us to nominate them! 🎉

🏆 Meet Austin Hope (Psychology 2014), recipient of the Young Scientist Excellence Award.

Austin is lead people partner and strategic talent advisor at Google and, most importantly, a proud Yellow Jacket. 🐝

💬 “Tech exposed me to people, ideas, and experiences I likely never would have encountered otherwise, all of which have deeply enriched both my career and my life.”

As one of our most active alumni volunteers, Austin can always be counted on to help create opportunities for our students.

💬 “Tech thrives because its alumni community reinvests its time, guidance, and resources. Giving back — whether through monetary donations, board service, mentorship, or speaking to graduating classes — ensures current students have the clarity, support, and network needed to turn their potential into long-term impact.”

We're grateful for Austin's leadership, mentorship, and commitment to helping future scientists thrive.

👏 Congrats, Austin, on this well-deserved recognition!

The autumnal equinox isn’t a date on your calendar. Your calendar exists because of the equinox. Paul Sell explains how celestial motions — like the equinox — were critical to human civilization’s understanding and documentation of time. ☀️🗓️ by @gtsciences

🏆 Meet Jeffrey Leddy, (Physics 1978), recipient of the 2026 College of Sciences Impact Award. The award recognizes an alumnus whose leadership, engagement, and support have helped advance the College and create opportunities for future generations of Georgia Tech scientists.

Jeff's favorite Georgia Tech memories? Meeting his wife of nearly 50 years and serving as the lead designer, builder, and driver of the winning Ramblin' Wreck Parade entry during Homecoming in 1975.

Jeff credits Georgia Tech with teaching him "discipline, focus, hard work, 'going the extra mile,' and to persevere, no matter what the challenge."

Congratulations, Jeff, and thank you for your continued commitment to Georgia Tech and the College of Sciences! 💛🖤

Meet Emily Weigel of the School of Biological Sciences!

Weigel is the new faculty guide for @gttechpromise, a scholarship for Georgia students.

It’s a full-circle moment: Weigel was one of the program’s first scholars when she was an undergraduate at Tech (BIO 2010!) 🐝

As a faculty guide, she hopes to help students feel connected to campus and comfortable asking for help.

💬 “There’s a tendency for students to push ahead and tell themselves, ‘I have to do this myself. And if I can’t, then I’m a failure.’ Or by the time they realize it’s OK to ask for help, it can often be at a point when it’s too late to make a meaningful change.

“I want my role to reassure them that they have someone looking out for them who can help if and when they need it.”

Thank you for supporting our students, Emily Weigel! 💛
