🔬 For her first undergraduate research experience, fourth-year Georgia Institute of Technology student Marielle Frooman did more than work in the McShan lab — she helped lead research that could shape the future of malaria treatment.

Frooman and her team faced failures, setbacks, and challenges, but ultimately uncovered eight peptides that can help the immune system recognize and fight the malaria parasite.

Her first co-authored research was recently published in Scientific Reports, a Nature Portfolio journal.

Her advice for other undergraduate researchers?

“Embrace your failures. They make the successes even more rewarding,” shares Frooman.

Georgia Tech Second-year biology student Anu Iyer's groundbreaking research is revolutionizing Parkinson’s disease detection.

“Essentially, we proved the feasibility of a telemedicine approach towards detecting PD. Through a three-second phone call, our machine-learning model recognizes patterns in data to detect Parkinson’s with a 97 percent accuracy rate,” says Iyer.

Iyer conducted much of her research while still in high school, submitting an article for publication during her first year at Georgia Tech. She is the lead co-author of the paper published in Scientific Reports.

On campus, Iyer has taken part in @explore.llc and is a College of Sciences Ambassador.
