My interview with Selin Davasse 💓💓💓 in @metropolism_mag is now online too! (Dutch only unfortunately).

The wonderfull, unique and inspiring artist Renee Kool passed away. I will cherish her legacy and everything I learned from working with Renee on the work Catharsis in 1993 she developed for Casco. She taught us so much opening up the possibility of a practice that combines conceptual rigid with emotional softness, hard core theory with mondaine pleasures. Thank you Renee.

💚 🖤💚 🖤💚 🖤💚🖤 💚🖤 💚

Posted @withregram • @workingclasshistory On this day, 25 September 2003, noted Palestinian American writer and intellectual Edward Said died in New York City, aged 67.

The founder of postcolonial theory, Said wrote extensively on West Asia and Palestine, and specifically on Western views of “the Orient".
In perhaps his most famous work, Orientalism, Said argued:

"Every single empire in its official discourse has said that it is not like all the others, that its circumstances are special, that it has a mission to enlighten, civilize, bring order and democracy, and that it uses force only as a last resort. And, sadder still, there always is a chorus of willing intellectuals to say calming words about benign or altruistic empires, as if one shouldn't trust the evidence of one's eyes watching the destruction and the misery and death brought by the latest mission civilizatrice."
