Black eyed peas! After a looooong creative hiatus I'm having fun in the studio again. Saw this beautiful woman while I was renewing my license at the Georgetown DMV last year. She was kind enough to let me take her pics. I don't know her name but I really enjoyed this piece! Anybody in Georgetown know who this is? And no, she was not growing black eyed peas when I saw her!!

I first met @sallieannrobinson when she was cooking out of her kitchen in Savannah Georgia. Telling the story of her life on Daufuskie Island in her pots and pans. She returned home to the island and is still slinging pits, telling stories and filling cookbooks! So proud of her!

What do you see when you imagine your future? 🤔

“When I See Myself, I See…” by artist and storyteller Natalie Daise (@gullahmama) brings together the voices of 21 students from Voorhees University’s GEAR UP program, captured through portraiture and personal storytelling. It is a moving look at identity, ambition, and the realities young people are navigating today.

🎟️ Included with museum general admission

"When I See Myself, I See… "is presented in collaboration with South Carolina Educational Television (@southcarolinaetv) and @voorheescollege GEAR UP program. 🤝 by @gullahmama

Sweet Honey In The Rock and Ysaye Barnwell have been on the soundtrack of my life for more than 40 years. This song, "We Are One", has opened many a stage for me and my daughter, @saramakeba . I painted this portrait in 2022. Ms. Barnwell received the first print. The original lives on the wall of a dear friend of hers (and mine). Offering the prints now on sale on my website (in bio) now through the end of March.
