Campus dressed up for fall 🎃🍂 by @gustavsonuvic

In his final year at Gustavson, Adam Vincent is balancing school with building a local business.

Adam is co-founder of Jacks, a platform connecting homeowners with local tradespeople and service providers. Part of the idea came from seeing friends in trades programs who had valuable skills but struggled to find flexible work around school.

“Studying at Gustavson helped me build confidence in my skills and in myself. Professor Mark Colgate helped me become more engaged in my business classes and develop skills like market research and public speaking that I still draw on today.”

Since launching this spring, Jacks has grown to more than 660 users and roughly 100 completed jobs a month.

“We want to help people put their skills to work, but just as importantly, we want people in Victoria to have a trusted place to find help when they need it.” by @gustavsonuvic

Months before a new collection reaches @aritzia stores, Merchant Director Linh Sa Arnold, BCom ’19, helps decide what shoppers will find on the racks.

Linh Sa always knew she wanted to work in fashion. Working in retail introduced her to buying and merchandising—roles that combined creativity with understanding trends, customers and the business behind the clothes.

She came to Gustavson with that interest in mind, building a foundation in finance and accounting to help her advance in the industry.

Now, she works alongside design and product teams to develop collections from concept to the sales floor.

“It’s very much a dream job,” she says. “I feel so much satisfaction from my work. I’m surrounded by creativity and great clothes.” by @gustavsonuvic

As Nathan Fielder’s critically acclaimed and much talked about documentary You Can See Everything gets a wider theatrical release this week, here’s everything you need to know about UVic’s most famous business grad… besides the fact that he got “really good grades.”

**BTW: Slide 8 should read Benny Safdie, not Josh Safdie. Apologies for the mistake.

UVic’s most famous business grad who “graduated with really good grades” Nathan Fielder is having a moment.

The comedian’s new documentary, You Can See Everything, is one of the most talked about and memed movie events of the year.

The film grossed an estimated $15 million US this past weekend, with more than 2,000 sold-out screenings, which according to the New York Times makes it one of the largest openings this century for a movie debuting on fewer than 1,000 screens.

It’s also the highest rated movie in @letterboxd history and is already gathering plenty of Oscar buzz.

Directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the nearly three-hour film was made in secret as Fielder and film crew spent over a month with the disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and her family in the final weeks before she reported to federal prison.

Fielder graduated from UVic’s Gustavson School of Business in 2005.

$Meet Kaia, a second-year BCom student who recently started biking to campus. 🚲 🌲 What do you love most about biking to campus? “Biking gives me a moment of stillness before my day starts. I get to be outside and listen to music, and those two things ground me more than anything else.” 🚲 Why do you choose to bike? “I started biking recently because I wanted to avoid the hassle of finding parking on campus and spend more of my mornings outside. We’re lucky in Victoria to have so many safe bike lanes, so why not use them? It also feels good to make a more sustainable choice when I can. Environmental responsibility is a big part of who Gustavson is, and I’m glad to feel like I’m doing my part to care for the planet.” 🌿 How does biking fit into your day at UVic? “Biking lets me decompress before or after class and give my brain a break. When managing deadlines and exams, I appreciate having designated time to get outside and move my body.” 💬 What would you tell another student thinking about biking to campus? “Do it, you won’t regret it! I found my e-bike on Marketplace for a fraction of the retail price. It gets me to campus as fast as driving, and faster than the bus.” by @gustavsonuvic$

Six years after co-founding @get_joni, Jayesh Vekariya, MBA ’19, is passing forward the support he received along the way.

“Success goes beyond education,” says Jayesh. “It was truly the whole UVic environment that played a significant role in supporting me. Gustavson gave me the framework to succeed. The people behind the Innovation Centre helped me day and night and encouraged me to keep going when I was doubtful.”

Earlier this year, Jayesh brought that support full circle with a $6,000 donation to Gustavson and another $6,000 to @uvicinnovation_ to support future student entrepreneurs.

Giving back has been part of joni’s model from the beginning. The company has helped fund more than one million donated period products.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you are starting out,” says Jayesh. “You’ll be surprised at how many people are willing to help you.” by @gustavsonuvic

Our students sat down with @thebankofcanada’s Senior Deputy Governor 🏦

Carolyn Rogers joined our Master of Global Business and Master in Management students for a fireside chat at Gustavson.

Moderated by associate professor Basma Majerbi, the conversation explored monetary policy, global economic shocks, financial markets and climate-related risks, as well as the pressures that come with a role like hers.

🗨️ “It was pretty impressive. We could see how what we’re learning in class applies in practice, not just in theory. It was really useful,” shares MGB student Harry Hao. by @gustavsonuvic

Investing can be intimidating. @uvicgirlsinvest is making it a little less so.

BCom students Aliyah Minter, Cynthia Lu and Zena Urquhart wanted a space where women could learn about investing together, ask questions and build their knowledge without feeling like they needed to be experts first.

When they couldn’t find quite what they were looking for on campus, they decided to create it themselves. They launched UVic Girls that Invest in fall 2025 and started building the kind of community they had been looking for.

“I think what’s unique about our group is that we’re learning in a fun and welcoming way,” says Aliyah.

Today, the club has grown to more than 150 members, with events ranging from guest speakers and networking to trivia nights and Jeopardy. by @gustavsonuvic
