Ok, I know this is getting monotonous but…proud parents alert yet again. Charlie sang in a concert at the Royal Academy of Music last night - her last before going to Scottish Opera for the best part of a year - the soloist in six songs by Zemlinsky who I knew nothing about but I will certainly be finding out more.

This was the first time she’s sung over a 60-piece orchestra and she was more than equal to it. I should mention that the orchestra started with Fairytale Poem by Gubaidulina (likewise I knew nothing but it was thrilling) and in the second half Prokoviev’s 5th Symphony and it was equally excellent.

Ryan Bancroft, conductor, gave her the confidence to basically lead the orchestra during the songs and it paid off. She was brilliant and of course this reflects on him - he’s in his thirties and is going to be incredible.

What a way to finish a stint at the Academy. And what a delight that our neighbour, composer James, came to see her too.

A breathtaking night. Carol and I are always proud of her but this was just beyond it. taken in Royal Academy of Music by @guyclapperton

Helping a client with presentation skills last week involved not only me and camera@expert Paul Angell but also opera singer Charlotte Clapperton. Here she is with a vocal warm-up tip or two. by @guyclapperton

Why overwhelm is worse than nerves for a presenter, including a pic of a scary juggling rabbit. https://open.substack.com/pub/guyclapperton/p/presentation-overload-is-the-enemy?r=75dyg&utm_medium=ios by @guyclapperton

Last night a lot of people will have seen Lawrence Rosenberg grilled by Claude Littner on The Apprentice. I took more of a "listening" approach for the first episode of the new series of The Near Futurist podcast - if you want to know more about his vision for the future of PR, take a listen: https://pod.fo/e/3faeec by @guyclapperton

To want to explain everything in detail is to want to help. But in a media interview this can be high-risk - ask me why and what to do about it! #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

Well, sort of - interviews are more like the Q and A after a keynote speech. But if you start performing screeds you've been rehearsing, the interviewer and the audience will switch their attention elsewhere. Really quickly. #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

Yes you should go into every media interview prepared - but the trend, particularly in the light of so many hit podcasts, is to keep it informal. #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

Those questions and answers you've lovingly scripted for that interview? Bad news about that... #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

Media training clients sometimes ask whether they can control what the journalist asks. Usually that's a "no" but you can control your answers. #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

Got some of those clients that want to speak in depth and at length to the press? Set my team on them and we'll persuade tham to be brief! #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton

If your quote doesn't stand alone then it can't form the heeadline of an article. (And if you're wearing a blue shirt and expect it to be visible, forget it!) #mediatraining #publicrelations #mediamentorguy by @guyclapperton
