Teaser for "Bill's Miracle", our new short. Premiering at @phillyfilmsociety SpringFest this Saturday and Monday! 'In an effort to de-stress his life, Bill gets rid of all his things. Little does he know, he might have just made his life immeasurably more complicated.' This film, both thematically and process-wise, was an experiment in simplifying and stripping down what makes a film a film, a life a life, and asks the question: what are you left with? Our film screens with other incredible, Philly-local shorts as part of the After Hours: New Oddities Shorts Program on April 18th and 20th. There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers after the screenings. Link in my bio for tickets, would love to see you there. NFL Draft - PNC Bank collab with the visionary @aka_omalley and the @playerstribune team. The concept was simple, “Brilliantly Boring”, how to shoot the everyday grind and not overly glorify the process to showcase Caleb’s routine. This project was special, @aka_omalley and the team at the Players Tribune came together to deliver one for the books. And for our crew who hustled to make this happen. Once in a while you get a call to come onto an ambitious project with a lot of creative freedom. When our director Kate, told me she wants this piece be “brilliantly boring”, I thought what a perfect way to showcase the mundane in a sleek yet striking way. Kate and I spend weeks contemplating and creating ideas that would showcase Caleb in that brilliant boring way. This is one of those projects where we had some limits, such as only having 3/hours with talent to capture all of our ideas. But a the end we had a team that pushed and got us what we needed, and yes we hustled. But this project only came together because Kate allowed everyone around her to perform at their best, she gave us the sandbox to play in and we did. This project is special for the expression we got to capture in Caleb and for our director empowering us to create her vision. Last few bits and pieces from the @fossil spec 'The Barn' Last slide to watch. A happy accident occurred when the sun started shooting through the barn's cracks and slits while we were trying to get it as dark as possible inside. It created these crazy slices of light that we were able to shoot through. Would never have been able to get that with any lights we had access to. Announcing SQUINT, my very unofficial/official production "brand" @squint.film Over the years I've always just operated as me myself and I, just a freelance director/editor. I never really wanted to manage a company or anything, but just thought of myself as an artist. That's still the case, but I needed to grow up a bit and make some moves. It started as just wanting to make an LLC for biz purposes, and I couldn't bear to name it "Aidan Guynes Filmmaking, LLC". Then, I realized maybe it was a good idea to have a separate entity than me as an artist. I thought maybe it would be a good way to separate my commercial work from my art work, because sometimes they don't feel congruent (it's hard to make commercial/client work feel "true" to your creative voice, at least for me). But also, it could be a place where I can build more of a team, nurture other creative voices, and eventually... It could potentially be a place where I could one day have my own films live. So, that's what it is ... My very unofficial, literally just me, production brand. I'm still very much just your neighborhood freelance director/editor, and I still love working with other production companies as a hired gun, but this is just an evolution of another side of my work. Hope to do more with this over the next year, and looking forward to collaborating with more of you as it grows. For all the clients out there, peep my drip. #videoproduction #director #cinematography by @guynez
