SNEAK PEAK… Solo show “SKINS” opens Thursday Sept 12 6pm to 8pm @plant486art #carrollgardens #brooklyn #nyc Show runs Sept 12 thru Oct 7 Come say hi, I’ll be at the gallery Sept 12, 13, 14 & 15 and Sept 27 & 28. Special programs include an artist chat with my buddy, architect and The School of Architecture President @chrislasch, also co founder of NY & Tucson based design firm @arandalasch. We used to be in a punk band together in high school called Water Girl so you can expect some peppering of our punk origin stories. Also on tap Saturday Sept 28 is my buddy Nate McBride @mcbridealopter brilliant jazz quartet with NYC saxophonist #michaelattias, drummer #jamespaulnadien, & bass player #brittanykarlson. I had the pleasure of doing Nate’s album cover last year- should be a sweet live show. Give a shout if you are at @thearmoryshow this weekend. We’ll be roaming around the booths. Happy 250th to the country I was born in and call home. As I wrote this, my wife cautioned me against using the phrase "I was born [here]" because the current political climate is one that is fomenting nativist politics. I have always been against, and always will be against, the idea that The State defines a people. Common citizenship does not make me brothers or enemies with anyone. I will decide for myself who I love and who I don't. No government will decide that for me. And so, on this day, in this land that we live on and share and fight over I want to express gratitude to the landscape itself --to the trees, and fields, mountains, lakes and everything else more-than-human that surrounds us. All these things that our current government cares nothing about. Process photos of a commissioned piece I am making for @degrootfineart For such a large piece I felt it would be smart to work off something with a strong design and clear architecture so I created a small mock up which we then projected onto the full size canvas. The canvas was so big we couldn't even fit it in our studio space flush against the wall so we had to figure out how to project adjust the projection etc. @devening_projects was incredibly helpful in working through these early stages and he has been exceptional in helping me navigate the complexities of such a large piece. "Dogs In the Wind" My wife and I try to make little songs to celebrate friends' birthdays. This one was for our good friend @lauriesargentmusic who trains cattle dogs. She is a special person and this is a special song. Remember people, we are all just dogs in the wind... and that's deep! by @guzzopinc
