I decided to take a color theory class at the local community college, my homework this week included painting a color wheel with the cheapest possible acrylic paint and cut swatches from a color-aid set. I don’t think I’ve done a classic color wheel since high school, it took me about three hours and was surprisingly satisfying. by @hadavisart

I know @sdcomicfest loves Guillermo del Toro, hopefully they’ll take @gdtreal thoughts on A.I. into consideration before they approve any more A.I. art panels at their events. A public apology wouldn’t be out of place, either.

@forbes had this quote from Guillermo del Toro at BFI in London:

“A.I. has demonstrated that it can do semi-compelling screensavers. That’s essentially that,” said del Toro.

“The value of art is not how much it costs and how little effort it requires, it’s how much would you risk to be in its presence? How much would people pay for those screensavers? Are they gonna make them cry because they lost a son? A mother? Because they misspent their youth? F**k no.”

I still can’t believe @sdcomicfest had multiple panels on using generative AI to create illustrations. It was at the same show as artists whose work was stolen to trainAI! The same day as a panel on making a living as an artist! If I’d known I would not have attended, much less volunteered and set up a booth. What a terrible disappointment.

This is a warning to other artists: do not purchase @epsonamerica certified refurbished printers. I’ve been looking for a good printer that could handle 11x17 prints on art papers and ordered an eco tank 8550 last month via their certified refurbished program. I was really excited to receive my printer, I’d saved around $250 vs buying new and the refillable inks would be more cost effective. A fried of mine has a new Eco Tank she loves, I’ve seen those prints and they look great. Unfortunately, when I received my printer, it arrived with a broken control panel - one of the hinges was snapped in half. I contacted Epson for a return and received it a few days later. This one looked fine, until I started printing. I started with a printer head alignment, it printed with broken lines. I was prompted to run a head cleaning, it didn’t improved. I followed the directions and ran another cleaning 12 hours later, it got worse. 12 hours after that I followed the directions to run a deep clean, and it got worse, the pages were printing nearly blank. After 30 minutes on the phone with Epson live support, I was told the printer head must be clogged and was offered another replacement unit. I opted for a refund instead of trying a third printer. The refurbished program sounds like a good idea, but right now they are shipping non-functional printers. Hopefully they can sort out their quality control issues before they ship instead of having customers deal with it after delivery.
