Yesterday, I had the absolute pleasure of leading an ideation session with a brilliant team of people.

Around a sequence of provocations we explored where places and spaces of care and togetherness exist in the city, talked micro kindnesses, allyship and possibilities for healing division. Fragrant herbs stimulated dialogue. The team shared generous perspectives on belonging and unbelonging, offered personal objects that articulated who they were and explored how other people might interpret them.

Finally, we gathered to assemble zines of togetherness and compassionate curiosity.

Thank you Skills and Education team for trusting me with the very beginning of your project. Wishing you all success to carry your own 'Respect and Identity' ideation out into the city to coproduce a vital resource.

Muffled by mist. Early walk. Across land and through trees. Precious.

I cannot wait to read, experience and learn from this book. Freshly through the letter box today.

Thank you @imchrisbaker for sharing your life in this way.

If you're able to purchase 'Built Different', there's a brilliant initiative at the checkout to add a few pounds to send a copy to someone living in prison.

Waiting for my car to complete [edit: FAIL] its MOT.

Stumbled across a transport cafe nestled behind a fast food chain. The kind of place my dad used to take me and my sister to.

Trying to work but completely transfixed by everything and everyone. It feels, smells, sounds so familiar yet I've never been before.

Stranger in my own town.

New love ❤️

Here's a thing. On Saturday 28 November I'll be swept up in a friendly open studio event.

I'll be here working on my PhD, writing and playing with ideas. I share a space with wonderful @davidstickmanhiggins and we have the very brilliant @dellerbachiara joining us for the day too.

We might just be here creating, playing, exploring and researching. All very happy to say hello as we work. Or we might improvise an activity for you to take part in on the day. Who knows. What's certain is, it's a space full of play, kindness, joy and creativity and that in itself is precious.

There are many interesting people, makers and businesses in the building, I'm looking forward to meeting the neighbours 💛

Details to follow.

Exploring 'the room above'.

Settled dust on our arms, picked out in sunlight. An incessant power tool song bashing our ears.

Very beautiful space, unintentional installation, great material palette and a whisp of @backroomsmovie discomfort

Playing with absent edges and disrupted boundaries.

Slow D.I.Y processes.
Photocopier, mop, acetate, paper, knife, stencil.
Clunking and whirring.
Bending and folding.

A morning of writing and an afternoon/evening of practice led exploration and sensemaking. This is what my PhD looks like today 💛

A meandering conversation full to bursting with generous opinions on 'belonging' and 'unbelonging'. Thank you @anachamberlen and Hannah Marshall for inviting me to share thoughts beside some brilliant and inspiring people at @uniofwarwick

My personal perspectives pitched 'belonging' as both an embrace and a constraint, and 'unbelonging' as a freedom.

Great to hear the thoughts and experiences of everyone in this exploratory gathering. Wonderful to encounter new people working with care and compassion. Always a pleasure to be with Shona Minson @steeldoorstudios Abigail S Shaw @FayeClaridge @roo_bernatek

All power, appreciation and gratitude to Helen Kara and the International Creative Research Methods Community team #ICRMC26.

My hybrid presentation/ workshop focused on the importance of paying attention to the micro details of care, agency, wellbeing and creativity within research engagements. I shared what it looks like in my research with men living in prison. What the impacts were, the time required for planning playful exploration, the labour required before and after each research encounter to carry it out with compassion, authenticity, and without causing harm. The work is often joyful, yet creative methods are a beautifully complex and intense journey.

Thank you to the room full of brilliant people who joined me, asked considered questions, fed back, played, and embraced the making activity. A table was filled wirh extraordinary things made from an envelope of rudimentary and discordant materials.

It was nourishing to spend time with many interested and interesting people carrying out careful, meaningful work. And a delight to be joined on day 2 by my son.

As always, my heartfelt appreciation to the 76 men living in four UK prisons, and 8 staff members who generously offered their time, energy, experiences and opinions to this PhD research 💛
